It's been two months since we all made New Year's Resolutions -- and I bet at least one of yours had to do with getting healthy, losing weight, or starting a new fitness routine. I certainly did!
So, how are we doing?
I'll go first. I recently read a book called "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" and I am really embracing everything it says. The basic premise is that women should not only commit to weightlifting, they should lift heavy weights -- much heavier than I thought. I was one of those women that would do bicep curls with 10 pound dumbbells, and use the fancy machines at my gym.
The book explained that the only way to build muscle is to really strain our bodies -- and so far, it's working. After years of a "normal" routine, I've noticed some major muscle building, in just 2 months.
I'll keep at it, and let you know how things are going. The latest workout has me doing interval trainning -- ouch! In the meantime, I'd love to hear from group members about their workout routines ... what works, what doesn't. What hurts, what doesn't. :)
Timely post. I heard once that Character is expressed by following through on a decision after the emotion associated with making the decision has worn off.
I've been following a strict diet and HIT lifting program consistently since mid-January. I've lost 15 lbs of fat and added 5 lbs of muscle, and am up nearly 20% in weight on each exercise. Have about 20 more to lose and 15 to gain as goals for being in proper shape by Summer. Seeing the results is a huge motivation.
I just bought a heavy bag/speed bag setup for a boxing workout on the days I don't lift. It's very satisfying to be able to hit something really hard. On the first use (yesterday) learned a lesson the hard way - half-finger gloves leave the middle knuckle exposed so a mis-hit splits the skin. Am off to buy some proper training gloves today.
Alternative therapies are the best way to get rid from several chronic diseases and also effective for weight management and body fitness. A few days ago I found http://www.rvita.com. Its too good to know about these therapies and effectiveness of it.
