More on Blair Holt bill from NRA -ILA site.

Reading the snopes artical, (bottom) it states this bill has yet to pick up a single cosponsor and would likely be allowed to die in subcomittee. The dems have recognized these bills as political poison with the majority of americans being firearms owners. This lesson was learned from the fallout of the worthless Clinton assault weapons ban. Although dems may have a majority, they aren't overwhelming. Will they shoot themselves in the foot? Unlikely.
Something like 25 state atty generals have issued letters to Holden basically stating they do NOT support additional gun legislation.
What will more likely happen is control over ammunition, as is happening in California already. Jump through hoops and pay huge excise taxes to obtain it. My post above noting the handgun ammo shelf in a huge sporting good store was BARE. But they had lots of guns for sale of all kinds. And those are worth what without ammo? On the counter were a few boxes of russian imported ammo, military calibres. $9.75/20 rounds for the exact same ammo that was $70/1000 rounds in 2007. $.07 a round or $.50 a round? Take it or leave it. Bulk ammo I bought last November has doubled or tripled in cost as of today.

Rachel, It is nice to meet someone who still drives a Comet Caliente, mine is a 66 hardtop and the only year they made it full size. I had 2 comets prior to this one and like we were told in those days you had to trade every 3 yrs.I finaly said no way as I was sick of car payments. My Bessie still runs maybe not as good as yours but every time I take her out some one wants to buy her but no deal she is my grand old lady. I live in the mountains and lots of snow so I finaly broke down in 84 and bought a GMC Jimmy which I am also told is getting to be an antique,so I run Bessie in summer and Buddy in winter but do alternate year round to keep the battery up.
You go girl you make all us oldsters proud. Marjorie in California

I personally don't want to give the right of government to come into my home and inspect at any time just like I don't want government to have access to my checking account for heathcare reform. This is a democracy not a socialist state.

Now... this is getting interesting...
There is a degree of responsibility and liability that comes with gun ownership, use etc. I would think that law abiding citizens have this figured out? ( I am not getting into criminals with illegal guns here). I had all that pounded into me as a teenager shooting at a range in the 50's and again when I took my CCW permit classes.
Yeah, I got it. I have been around firearms my entire life. I understand, totally, the responsibility of gun ownership, safe use in hunting, handling, storage, all of it.
But what about the newbee? Some person that has never owned a firearm and just goes and buys one because they legally-can?
I went to shoot at a gravel pit with a close friend/newbee gun owner. From the back of his van, he gets out his Ruger 10/22, fully loaded with one in the chamber! "WTF are you doing/thinking?" He got the gun safety discussion from hell, from me! Yo, MORON!
I don't know what to think. It's the paper trail issue/registration and all of that. But on the flip side, there are idiots owning firearms with no comprehension of gun safety or legal liability issues, and that scares me to death.
Guns don't kill people; IDIOTS kill people. And don't tell me the isn't a concern and one the media plays to the max.
In Michigan, Kids have to pass a hunter safety class including firearms handling and range time before thay can obtain a hunting licence. Adults, over 21, do not. WHY NOT? Becaue they are over 21?
I really can't answer this one. All I can say is that I refuse to hunt with inexperianced hunters and if I see someone do something careless or stupid with a firearm. ALL DONE.
