Question

Best independent living in Central Florida?

My mother is looking for an independent living arrangement in Central Florida that would allow for more care later on as needed, hopefully a villa or apartment to start with.  Any personal recommendations out there for places we should visit?  Please tell me what you like about it and why.  Also it would be very helpful if you could give me an internet link.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give us!

    Question

Sorry this is a tardy reply for you, but I just joined the GB forum.  May I suggest you take a look at the several senior living facilities that surround the Port Charlotte Culture Center in PC. There are several, efficencies, apartments, assisted living and such bordering this great public senior citizen's center that provides meals, entertainment, a public library, and companionship among colleagues. It is adjacent to many medical facilities and two 1st class hospitals. Also PC has an affordable cost-of-living base. Take a look.  I know this, because PC is my home too!

Thanks for your reply.  That's the kind of information that I need.  But I also need to stay in the Orlando area.  Anybody else?

    Question

    Hello,
My mother lives in Kissimmee near Orlando.  She lives at Good Samaritan Village.  It has every kind of support.  She lived in Village West apartments for 17 years.  When she broke her leg, she lived in the nursing facility, receiving physical therapy until she was mended and able to return to her apartment.  Last month she moved to the new section, Heritage Creekside.  She is an assisted living apartment.  It is great.  Staff members knock on her door and give her the medications her doctor  prescribed.  The dining area reminds me of the Mexico part of Epcot.  This is a really beautiful place.  There is also bus service and car service.  The beauty salon and ice cream parlor is down the hall.  Across the street is a gift shop and butterfly garden.  There is a church on the premises and bible studies or residents can take the bus to the church of their choice. (This was a big issue for my mom).
