I used to smoke a pack and a half to two packs a day....I now

    smoke 7- 10 cigarettes a day....I don't smoke in my car...or Mom's

or Mom's house or in my childrens's homes.....the first thing you got to

break is the triggars....that first cigarette of the day can be three puffs.....

I had patches...gave them to hubby cause they seemed to help him....I

have the gum.....it sticks to my dentures....but I do use it occasionally...I

think it is largely psychosomatic, if someone could convince me it

is Chicolets...I'd do just as well.....as long as it didn't stick to my teeth..

For me it's the smell of the smoke in my clothes....ICK....You can go to

Quitnet.com and get free help to start you on your route to quitting

There are nice folks over there....YOU CAN DO THIS.....

    Blessings......Lllaurel

    Leslie,

You are very lucky to be smoking all those years with no ill affects. It is true that some people have cancer of the lung and never smoke and nonsmokers die etc. No question about that. And surely it is your right to smoke and if that is what you want to do, by all means do it. Myself, I fell a hundred percent better after quitting and if I die tomorrow, I will still be glad I chose to quit becaue the time I did have, I felt better.

On the rare day that I don't smoke at all..I have a big energy boost....
NO! None of them died of lung cancer....but I would suppose many
of them had "other" bad habits that opened them to sudden cardiac
    arrest.....

My Mom's cardiologist patted me on the shoulder the other day and informed
me that at our age there are two main causes of death....Cancer and Heart
disease.....since smoking makes both these things more likely....I'd like
to cut my losses....If you play with a knife long enough you are sure to
get cut....sometimes it is not a deep wound....sometimes it needs stitches.....
    Hugs

Hey Leslie  -- I know I said I quit cold turkey back in 2000.  It's because the doctor scared me.  Said I had the beginning of enphysema (howya spell it).  I came home looked it up and found there is no cure but one can keep it from getting worse, so I forced myself to quit.....Did not feel any better after quiting or since.

I am totally against the government calling the shots on where we are allowed to smoke. It's none of their business.  Smoking or not smoking should be left up to the individual.

Sorry, but you are so wrong.  I have been a light smoker for 40 years and have tried faithfully to quit at least 10 times.  I want to quit smoking more than anything.  In fact I am trying right now.  Haven't had a smoke in three days.  If you know something about addiction (of any kind!) you would not make such a statement.

Hi Helen:  Good for you for quitting.  I have been trying for a number of years to quit.  It is so hard.  Does anybody have a suggestion for quitting in spite of a husband who continues to puff away continuously while I am trying to quit?  He is not supportive.  He won't even discuss quitting.  He is a good guy otherwise.

Dear CarolAnn, one of the things is HABBIT & ROUTINE I found that I was smoking before I needed it! Something that worked for me was put the packet in 1 cupboard up high & lighter in another cupboard up high. Im short 5ft 1 by the time I has thought of getting the steps I had gone off having a smoke it just wasnt worth the trouble! change your drinking patterns coffie or water insted of tea or the other way round, a worry ball or stone by the phone or in your pocket, something for the fingers to do. Find a understanding non smoking friend to help & suport you. Ask your husband if he would mind smoking out side, & not in the car, just untill you have given up, Hope this helps & if you drop back you can always have another try
