Maybe start small; invite a neighbor/church member over for coffee, brunch.

Do you have a special hobby?  Teach it to someone.

It is easier for me to say first what I am not afraid of. I am no longer afraid of becoming a "shopping cart" or "bag lady." I am afraid to take the next step forward to a new home, but working on it in itty bitty baby steps.

Aw c'mon Vannie, take a big giant leap.  Life is short, believe me.  Want it now?  Do it now.

Oh Livta Skate, I really am trying. I have started the process by decluttering my apartment and that's no easy task. My biggest problem is waayy too many books. Last year I donated a ton to my library for our annual book sale, doing the same this year. Also, although I am excited by the thought of moving, I worry that I won't be able to get to the theater as I have been able to all of these years. I live 25 minutes away by bus from New York, less by train and both are just two blocks away. It is hard to walk away from that convenience since I love live theater--deep sigh!

Hmm, consider this - there is usually live theater in almost any town with a university.  Also community theater etc.  Now granted its not tony-winning Broadway stuff but its theater, and perhaps you could be involved in it in some way.  Thats not too easy in NYC, but a lot easier in the burbs or the sticks.  Mull it over.......

I would miss easy access to NYC, but, I don't mind local theater, I love it as well.  I am realistic enough to  know that I am just dragging my feet. (smiling) I do have a two year plan, but I am already into the 8th month of the 1st year. Time really flies when you have made a firm commitment :(

Hey! Stop  making me say stuff out loud!! My philosophy(sp?) is when you write things down you have to follow through. LOL

I refuse to live in fear, it doesn't help.  Live your life to the fullest in the healthiest way you can.  Divest your life of *stuff* that you don't really need and pray for the best.  What will be will be, we can only try and live a healthy life.  Genetics plays such a big part.

I heard on the news today that 22% of boomers feel they will never stop working...because they can't and 46% will delay retirement .
I have a Plan B because you need to take care of yourself in these times. The "company' can't be guaranteed to do so any longer.

Hello. I am 50 too and have been unemployed for 2 years. My wife has a decent paying job. I am full of fear... fear that I can't provide for my wife and child... fear that I will never fulfill my destiny.  I don't know why I can't hold on to jobs. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I show up on time, I work hard. But my jobs never work out. There must be a reason.
So I fear that I won't be able to hold my own (if ever I am on my own).  Thanks for asking this question. It's nice to know I am not alone. I am so happy I found this website and the tv shows they air.
