Legendary actor and philanthropist Paul Newman had died at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer.
The Academy Award-winning actor starred in some of the most beloved movies of all time, including "Cool Hand Luke," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," and "The Sting."
He was married to actress Joanne Woodward for 50 years, and together they had five children and two grandchildren. They also teamed to start the hugely successful Newman's Own brand of popcorn, salad dressing and other foods. The company raised millions for charities.
As the tireless actor and activist aged, he said he wasn't slowing down or mellowing.
"I'm not less angry, I'm not less self-critical, I'm not less tenacious," he told Newsweek in 1994. "Maybe the best part is that your liver can't handle those beers at noon anymore."
Share your memories of this American classic who personified cool, good deeds and a family life that we all envied.
The news of Paul Newman's death makes me sad. Fame and fortune did not go to his head. He remained a gentleman throughout his life. He was a beautiful human being.
One of Paul's most notable accomplishments was founding The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford Connecticut. These camps for children with serious medical conditions expanded across the United States and worldwide.
I'm sure the networks will be airing many Paul Newman's movies in the coming weeks. It'll be an opportunity for us to watch our favorities and some we may have missed.
