Retired Orlando Pharmacist. Had a great 40-year career in pharmacy practice then I started my own web-based medication reminder software business in 1996. It has been very rewarding and I enjoy being able to help people all over the world - not just in Orlando. Back in '89-'91, 1 served on the American Pharmacists Association Board of Trustees with a PhD who did research on the costs of patient noncompliance. Back then he found that $100 Billion is wasted in the US every year because people don't take their medications correctly. That's a big number and it got my attention. After researching what was available and mulling it over for a couple of years, I decided it was time to "do something". I left pharmacy practice and started my own software development business. I decided what the software should do (based on my extensive pharmacy background) and worked with a brilliant Palm programmer who lives in Hawaii, who knew nothing about pharmacy. We were even - I knew nothing about programming! We did everything by email.and we somehow managed to produce the BEST medication reminder program available anywhere in the world. I've still never met the man! Is that awesome or what!?! OnTimeRx consistently gets Rave Reviews and "5 out of 5 star" ratings from our users and it's even won awards. Many of our users have requested Pocket PC versions and a desktop program interface, so I had to find an 'off-shore" developer in India... just like the "Big Boys". We must've been doing something right, because I got a call from Microsoft in November of 2006. Seems they had been working with several senior focus groups and they all liked the idea of a prescription software program. So I was asked if I'd like to have my OnTimeRx- Windows program included in a special Senior PC they were putting together on HP Vista machines. WOW! OF course I said YES! (My Mama didn't raise no dummies...) BTW- My profile photo was taken in the Microsoft exhibit at the AARP 2007 conference in Boston, where those Senior PC systems were being showcased. They are now available on Microsoft Marketplace and several lucky seniors got one for Christmas this year. http://www.microsoft.com/enable/aging/seniorpc.aspx My company has also launched an online reminder service for phone and email reminders, and we are currently putting the finishing touches on an SMS version of OnTimeRx, so we can help the millions of cellphone users out there. This will send text message reminders to our "opt-in" subscribers, many of whom will be Baby Boomers. As everyone knows, the Baby Boomer market is huge, and our SMS service is perfect to help them remember to take their pills -along with everything else they're doing in their busy lives. I want to make the cellphone serve as a healthcare tool to help people of all ages stay healthy and independent as long as possible. I LOVE computers and gadgets of all kinds, and I have to have the very "latest" of everything - for testing purposes, of course! ;D This year Santa is shipping me an XO laptop in the "Give 1 Get 1 promotion for the "One Laptop Per Child" program. And I won a BlackBerry Torch in the RIM SuperApp Competition. Technology really ROCKS!
We launched our mobile pill reminder app - OnTimeRx for iPhone and Android this year (2012). I see patients of all ages - from the GB crowd on down - using iPhones these days and Anyone who has an iPhone or Android can use OnTimeRx for FREE now! It's a great way to stay Healthy. We hope this latest venture will go viral.
I didn't start my second career until I was 59 (15 years ago!) and it's been so exciting, I can hardly wait to find out what I'll be doing tomorrow! Not doing bad for a gal from a small town in Southern Indiana.

Posted 6:10pm November 2nd, 2009Although I'm not a pharmacist and don't have my own business, I think you sound like a person I would get along with just fine! Harry kind of reminds me of my Angel....just a little, and I have a niece who just became a pharmacist...and I just turned 70 in July. Congratulations on all your endeavors...you have done well. Good for you. I worked all my life in different offices but don't know that I would consider myself a professional at anything other than being a mother of twins. I stay very active but I seem to be spending rather than making any more money. I belong to 2 red had social groups and volunteer for a local Childrens Center. One of my Red Hats groups is mostly made up of ladies I went to high school with! We also get together monthly and play cards. I was just diagnosed with breast cancer but I've got too much to do to be bogged down with that....So plans are moving quickly to take care of things so I can get this out of my way and get on with the fun stuff! Nice to meet you.
