Question

Up Coming Activities?

Hi to All Red Hat Ladies,

What kind of activities does your Chapter have coming up in the next couple of months? It might give others Chapters ideas for something to do.
Thanks for sharing.

    Question

I am Queen of the Concord Grapette Chapter in a small community just 25 miles east of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Our chapter saw in the Friday Broadcast of the RHS where a group of red hatters started a "Red Collar Club" taking red collars to animal shelters for the older animals to wear showing there are still years of life and joy to be had by adopting an older pet.

Our chapter followed their lead and has created a "Red Scarf Club" for the local animal shelter.  We have an appointment with the director and the local newspaper in July where we will not only promote the adoption of the older animals but also the Red Hat Society and the joys that being a part of this disorganization can bring to those over 50.  We are very excited about the project and have about 75 red scarves or bandanas to present to the shelter.

It is our hope that this project will take off and many older animals that would have been euthanized will find years of life and love with an adoptive family.

    Question

Queen Wanda, That is a wonderful idea.  This is the kind of story I love to hear. It is so uplifting.  I can't wait until our next meeting to tell our Queen about your project.

    Question

The Texas Ramblers (Houston TX) are meeting for a Thrift Shop Hop on Saturday. We are meeting for breakfast, shopping, and they meeting for lunch - and comparing our wonderful thrifty finds. Our hostess has prepared an itinerary and maps for us to about 10 thrift shops in a central location.

    Question

Reporting back on our chapter visit to the animal shelter.  Our chapter founded The Red Scarf Club for older, more mature animals that are awaiting adoption at a local animal shelter.  Yesterday we took the scarves and made the presentation to the animal shelter director.  We were very well received and plan to broad our reach by going to several other animal shelters sharing red scarves.  We stated that we knew "Older Women Make Beautiful Lovers" so we wanted to call attention to the fact that older pets make beautiful companions.
The local newspaper was there to cover the event.  We are hoping that The Red Scraf Club will catch on across the nation thus saving many older animal from being put down.

The first dog to receive a red scarf was given the name "Grapette" after The Concord Grapette Chapter of the Red Hat Society of which I am Queen.

    Question

Our meeting this month will start out with lunch at the Sage Brush Restaurant.  Next we are going to Senior Fun Day in the Park.  There will have lots of contests.  The one I'm thinking about entering is the Hollerin' contest.  Wouldn't that be a hoot if I won? If I do enter, I will let you all know. :-)

    Question

Four of us just got back from taking the train to/from Austin, Texas for the 7th Annual Convergence.  Had a blast.  In November some of us are taking the train to Oklahoma City, OK for their 3rd annual event.  We had so much fun last year, we're repeating this year.  December is our annual Christmas party.  January we meet at a member's home and make plans for 2009.  These plans are not set in stone; they are adjustable, but this gives us an idea.

Most of us still work so we usually meet once a month on a Saturday.  We take turns planning and hosting the events.  A few of the activities we have done in the past are:  museums, plays, musicals, eating out, game night (Bunko) at a member's house, out of town trips, shopping, tea rooms, activities with other chapters, The Money Mint, etc.

This past weekend 4 in my chapter attended an auction that another chapter was having on red hat stuff they wanted to get rid of because they were tired of it and wanted new stuff, had never used it, or whatever the case was.  We had a ball and got some really good bargains.  The auction prices started at $1 and usually never went over $5.  There were a couple of "high priced" ($12) items but most were $1-$3.

As the queen, I love getting new ideas for activites, games, crafts, etc. - anything fun!!  So if you have any, send them my way please.

    Mucho friendship............Queen Gypsylady
