About Me

I aspire to Grow Bolder. Through this web site, I hope to be inspired by others to Grow Bolder, not older.

My Latest Blog

  • Two very experienced Senior Games athletes

How many times do you have the opportunity to talk to someone who is 102 years old? I had that pleasure when I called to check in on John Donnelly, my favorite over-100 years old athlete. His first comment to me was if we had created a 100-105 year...

More About Me

Hometown

Tallahassee, Florida

Family

My family consists of my wife, Christy and our two sons Grant and Gregory. We live in a Tallahassee neighborhood built in the 1950s.

Education

I have a bachelor's degree in History from Florida State University.  I also took journalism classes at Florida A&M University.  Rounded out my all-Tallahassee college education is an Associate in Arts Degree from Tallahassee Community College.

Goals

Again, to Grow Bolder and inspire others to do the same. I just accomplished my goal of finishing the 2008 Women's Distance Festival 5K Run in my neighborhood in under 33 minutes, with a time of 32:57.  The profile photo is from my performance on Saturday, September 20.

People I'd like to meet

Greg Maddux, Heather Locklear, Steven Tyler and Keith Olbermann to name a few.

My Favorites

Interests

I like to talk to people about just about anything, preferably over beers.

Books

I recently checked out "Worst Person in the World," by Keith Olbermann from the library. I have several baseball books on the shelf waiting to be read, including one about Joe Dimaggio.  I've been passing time with a Dollar Store by Don Zimmer.  It's basically him telling stories from his 50-year career in baseball.  It's ok.  If you've followed the career of Don Zimmer, it would be a favorite.

Foods

Let's just say I like to eat. My comfort foods are barbeque and chicken wings.

Music

I like the jam bands. I like guitars. I could listen to Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers, Santana and Aerosmith all day long and not grow tired of them.

Movies

I like goofy comedies. One of my all-time favorite movies is "Blazing Saddles."  I just was the new Indiana Jones movie with my family. It's fun.

Television

Besides sporting events, I regularly watch, The Simpsons, ER, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Everybody Hates Chris and have recently been watching the Sarah Connor Chronicles.  I love the Terminator movies as well.

Passions/Hobbies

Since 1969, at the impressionable age of 7, I have been a New York Mets fan. So I guess that would make me a passionate Mets fan. I am anxiously counting down this last week of baseball season to either watch the Mets in the playoffs or suffer through another late-season collapse.

Heroes

It's hard to narrow down what you call a hero. There have been so many influential people in my life whether they be family, professional mentors or close friends. As I've grown older, I've come to realize the wisdom of my parents. In my professional career, I've tried to pattern myself after two influential people, Wayne Hogan, the former sports information director at Florida State who gave me my first job and Charlie Miller, who I worked with in Orlando at the Citrus Bowl. Both of them provided me a lifetime of knowledge which I've tried to follow.
