We need your story!

Dear GB Pet Parents,
Deedra Hunter and I are writing partners who need your help. Our second book is titled Praying Paws, and  is about dogs who seemingly put their little paws together in prayer and plead to God to get them out of where they are and into someone's arms who will love and protect them.  Miraculously, they appear in your life and remain in your heart forever.  Deedra and I need your story.  E-mail it to us (don't worry about grammar, punctuation, spelling, or run-on sentences!) We'll post it on GB and then add it to our book.  You can certainly include a picture of your angel and if you want your name mentioned,  please tell us.
Thank you so much for being part of "Praying Paws."

Well, this picture is not quite what you asked for, but I thought it was cute enough.

It is a precious picture!  Was this a recue dog? A stray? I'm really looking for stories of dogs that appear in our lives. For example: a Jack Russell terrier appeared in the driveway  of one elderly Florida couple and they adopted her. One month later, the husband passed away and his wife swears this dog is an angel sent to keep her from being sad and lonely after his death.

I don't know the dog, I got the picture as an Easter greeting card.

We did have a dog that could sing if it heard music play :)

If you look at my husband's blog (JasonCam) you can see pictures of my first dog, Casey.  I had been looking for a dog for 9 months, and he was NOT what I was looking for.  I was looking for a small or medium size dog to share my 600 square foot apartment.  Well, I ended up with a 70 pound golden retriever/lab mix.
He was a stray with no name and no background.  After having him for several months, I realized he had a severe fear of thunderstorms.  Everytime it stormed, he would poo and pee.  If I wasn't at home to get him outside, he would leave a mess in my home.
I always swore he was meant for me though.  See, I grew up with a severe anxiety disorder.  If there was anyone in this world who could understand his anxiety, it was me!
It was through Casey that I found my real calling in life, to work to save the lives of other homeless pets.  It's kind of a long story, so if you're interested, please feel free to contact me.

    Hi Renee.

This is the first time I've seen this group, but I'm glad I did.  I told Deedra about my dog story a couple of months ago and remember her mentioning the book 'Praying Paws'.  Here's the story:

It was December of '06 and I got a last minute booking to do an employee Christmas party at a home in Clermont.  It was a VERY cold day, and the night was going to be down in the lower 50's to upper 40's.  What's worse was that I hadn't been told I would be doing the show on the back porch!  To add insult to injury, they lived on a lake, so the temp was even colder.  Luckily I had a sweater coat in my van so I put that on.  I was still freezing.  After setting up and doing a sound check, I was standing there trying to stay warm when I saw this bundle of white stuff at the opposite end of the porch.  I looked closer and saw that it was a small dog, and the poor thing was shivering so hard I could almost feel it from where I stood.  I went over and picked him up, put him inside my sweater coat and cuddled him, trying to keep us both warm.  I held him as much as I could before and during the show.  I found out that the people who owned him, the people who booked me, made this precious little dog live outside!!  Which meant not only did he have to endure any and all elements of the weather, but with the house being on a lake, this poor thing could have been eaten by a gator!  His fur was all dirty and matted, and had some kind of miniature toothpick-like things stuck all over him.  I thought that he must be in pain when he walked because those things were all up under his little arms.  I couldn't even tell what kind of dog he was, until they told me he was a Toy Poodle. They also told me they were trying to find someone to take him, they didn't want him anymore.  I couldn't believe it.  How can people do that????  Needless to say, I told them I'd take him.  With barely the blink of an eye, they packed all his stuff into his cage and sent him home with someone they didn't know, and had no way of knowing how he would be treated.  My emotions ran from anger at them for not caring about him to thanking God for putting me there that night.

After bringing him home I called my groomer and she came to the house a few days later.  What a transformation.  He actually looked like a poodle!  She also informed me that his name, 'Bobo' means 'stupid' in Spanish.  Well, I wasn't going to call my dog stupid, so I changed his name to 'Lobo'.  So now he's an 8-pound 'wolf' :)

It's now been 2 1/2 years and he's brought so much joy to my life, along with my other two dogs.  (By the way....my other dogs are a 90-pound Lab/Basset mix and a 108-pound Akita....but everybody gets along well.)  Just the other day my groomer was here and said again how lucky Lobo and I were to find each other.  I couldn't agree more.

100_3253.JPG  This is my Bruno and here is his story.

It  was 14 years ago that we first laid eyes on him.He was in a litter with 9 other pups.

My neighbors had a dog that gave birth to 10 adorable pups,The problem was at the age of  5weeks the mom got up shook all the pups off her and never went back to them.

My son had wanted a puppy and we had the book Bruno The Beagle Puppy...he fell in love with the book and wanted a puppy just like Bruno.

So we were asked if we could take a puppy so it wouldn't die.

We had at the time a 130 lb red dobie named Trucker. My hubby was not too happy about the new addition.

I promised to take total care of Bruno along with my son who at the time was only 4 years old.

I fed him every 2-3 hours and kept him warm with a hot water bottle, put a stuffed toy in with him along with a ticking alarm clock.....along with my arm hanging in his box to soothe him when he cried.

He has turned out to be the most wonderful dog we have ever had.

He and my son grew up together and he turned out to be my hubbies best friend.

He is now 14....has cost us thousands of dollars in vet bills and surgeries....But worth every penny.

He has outlived all his siblings and still the King of our house!I don't know what would have happened to him if we didn't take him........ I just thank God we did.

    Sassy
