About Me

Hello, my name is Dave Knechel. Good luck pronouncing my last name (nek' ul). I grew up in Flemington, New Jersey, but moved to the Orlando, Florida area in 1981.

When I moved here, I got a job as a hard line/ad layout artist for the Belk Lindsey department store chain. I later worked for a couple of ad agencies and printers, but left the graphic design business in 2007. Previous to that profession, I worked in the restaurant industry and walked around smelling like an onion for years.

When I was 4 years old, my grandparents bought me a “paint by number” oil painting kit. I did not like it at all. It wasn't creative and the paints were inferior. How I knew they were junk when I had never even seen oil paints before is still a mystery to me. I told my parents and they bought me a real set. My first painting, at 4, was the Rock of Gibraltar because my father sold insurance for Prudential back then. One day I will retire and go back to oils. In the meantime, I will try my hand at a little writing.

Thank you, Growing Bolder!

That is too funny and so cute!
That shade of lipstick flatters you quite nicely.
I wonder if anyone else on GB has as much fun as we do?
Now you need to do something with Ina's half face.

Hi, Debbie! Great hearing from you.

In real life, I only have a top of my head. It stops there. That's why I always type. You've never heard me speak, right?

I hope you don't mind. I needed to borrow some lips.

    Dave...
I don't know who you look like, and I don't know who looks like you; but
I do know you are more handsome than your avatar allows us to see =)
We probably wouldn't recognize you with a whole different profile picture.

You know how the question sometime comes up about one's nationality (or whatever )?  I could tell my sons that I'm half Irish and half French.  My husband always says he's Swamp Yankee.  He's kind of thick-headed, so I have to keep reminding him that Swamp Yankee is not a nationality.  He insists that it is.  The only way I can get an idea of his heritage is to look up our last name and his mother's maiden name.

Why does he have to make the simple things so difficult?

Oh yes!!!  Growing Balder is good.

I would never wear a toupee. I shaved my head for a while, but it got to be too much work - every other day I had to break out the old razor. For the past 10 years or so, I have been cutting my own hair. No way is this scalp worth $15. That figures out to be around 50 cents per hair, not including the tip.

I don't know about a "Bald is Beautiful" group. How about a "Growing Balder" one instead?

By the way, I've never heard the term, Swamp Yankee. That's a good one.

    Dave...
You should create something like a "Bald is Beautiful" group on Growing Bolder.  It would be interesting to see how the membership grows---pardon the pun.

It's refreshing to see men who are comfortable with their heads.  My husband wears a ball cap most of the time.  At least that keeps the sun off his dome; but when he's almost the only one wearing a hat in a restaurant, I want to grab it off his head and fling it to the floor---but I just keep quiet about it.  He's set in his ways and is a Swamp Yankee afterall---probably doesn't know any better =)

    Just say NO to Rugs!!!
