There is a rhythm to making mosaics - a meditative quality to the repetition of cutting and laying tesserae. When a piece is going well, and I hit this rhythm, is is almost magical. I lost track of time and place, am able to give complete control over to my subconscoious while my hands do the work as if of their own accord. Everything just seems to fall into place - the colors and textures, the flow of the tesserae, the mood of the piece. This mysterious enchantment through the rhythm of the work is why I make mosaics.
My great love, besides creating, is giving instructions to those interested in learning the techniques of creating mosaic art. Teaching is what I feel makes my art complete.
I offer mosaic workshops in my private studio, located in Port Charlotte, FL, just minutes away from Boca Grande, between Sarasota and Ft Myers. I'm excited to announce that we're offering Beginner & Advanced Alternative Workshops. There's no time like the present to start creating your first mosaics! This is a complete class that covers mosaic design, terminology and resources, types of materials available out there in the mosaic world, substrates, fixatives, tools and their use, setting, grouting, sealing and finishing. I also teach at the Englewood Art Center, a Division of Ringling College of Art & Design.
