I love life and everything about life! Biophilia is my middle name! My purpose in life seems to be helping to build bridges between people and organizations. I love learning and assisting others to learn.
Some of my key interests are ecology & sustainability issues, companioin animals of all kinds, (animal-assisted therapy), wildlife ( I especially enjoy watching the birds and other critters in my yard). I grew up in a small rural town in Iowa, so I have a great appreciation for the heartland and farm life in this great country of ours.
I have worked with older adults as an Activities Director for over 16 years in various senior living environments. I also have worked int he animal-assisted therapy field in the past with my therapy dog, (Golden Retriever) Cooper. Cooper has passed on and I am currently without any animals, but I look forward to one day enjoying a companion animal again in my life.
Right now most of my time and energy is invested in attending graduate school at Bethel University in St Paul, MN. I am seeking a masters in Gerontology. I am currently in my first year. I hopefully will graduate in May of 2010.
I love to travel whenever I can. I have been to Europe twice. I espcially love Austria where I have very dear friends that live just outside of Vienna. I have worked with many international college age students from all over the world, throughout my life as a ESL tutor, or as a friend and housemate when they lived in my home and were attending the U of MN. I love all kinds of international food as a result and I enjoy learning about other cultures and languages. I do not speak a foreign language fluently, but I know how to at least say "Hi" in over 20 languages.
I love music of all kinds, but I especially enjoy Celtic or Irish music. I also enjoy classical, country, and various forms of rock-n-roll especially from 1980's. I used to be a DJ when I was younger, at our local radio station in Iowa, so I am not afraid of a microphone.
