I think of myself a positive aging activist. For more than two decades, I worked in an industry known, for lack of a better term, as seniors housing. There, it was my privilege to get to know hundreds of friends who were in their 80s and 90s and beyond. In this human laboratory, I got to see first hand the difference between having a positive attitude or a negative attitude toward aging. The deck is somehow stacked in this country. More people of all ages feel negatively about aging--their own and others. This prevailing negative outlook has a very real affect on our overall health and well being. Negative attitudes fuel negative experiences like a vicious cycle.
I have made it my personal and professional quest to seek and find role models for positive aging, and tell their stories.
