HometownStockton, CA
FamilyI have two sons and a daugther. My daughter runs her own scrap booking business. She is a cancer survivor. My oldest son, Christopher is a supervisor with Microsoft, and my youngest son is an executive at Lockheed Martin. Christopher, who was inspired by my cycling, took up the sport about three years ago, and 2008 was his first year of competition. He won the prize as the top Cat 4 track racer in Texas in his first season! My son Evan attended Syracuse University on a rowing scholarship.
EducationI have attended the University of California at Berkeley, University of Kansas, St. Johns University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
GoalsWin a national cycling championship to add to my three national running titles. I am happy to report that in November of 2007 I defeated the reigning national champion in my age group so that is a good start! Update: On June 20th, 2011, I accomplished my mission of winning a national championship by winning the 5K time trial, setting a new national record, and turning top time of the day out of approximately 360 competitors.
People I'd like to meetI have been privileged to meet some amazing and well known people during my career and athletic pursuits. I would love to meet my hero Joe Kittinger!

Posted 7:18am May 11th, 2010Good luck with your new venture Rainer. I was an avid martial artist in my 30s, and I would love to return to studying martial arts but alas, the arthritic involvement and scar tissue around my c1-c2 vertebrae from my neck fracture does not allow that.
One of the major advantages of cycling is that it doesn't beat up your body as for example running can do. Another exciting thing about cycling is that unlike running where there is a large disparity between younger runners and even world-class runners (of which we have a few locally), older cyclists can often even beat up on the young guys - one of my most fun things to do on a bicycle!!
Let us know how your judo training progresses!

Posted 11:11pm May 10th, 2010Great story, Sandy!
Your best comment is that people are always trying to put limits on you because of your age. I'm getting back into judo at 60 because my son who is 17 has finally decided to take it up. I've had several joint surgeries over the past few years but I really missed the training & competition.
I've had a lay-off of 35 years & the toughest part is the nagging injuries which seem to take forever to heal nowadays. I'm looking forward to retiring so I can train full-time again.
By the way, cycling is my very close second choice if this doesn't work out - love the leg pump.
Keep cycling.
Your firend,
Rainer Fischer

Posted 9:19am March 2nd, 2010Hi Terry, it's a pleasure to have you as a friend on this fantastic site. I had the pleasure of meeting the gang from GB for a recent video shoot for the TV show, and they are most fantastic people that one could ever hope to meet.
You also have a fascinating profile - I read it some time ago in that candidly I was fascinated by that "peek around" picture of you.
Take care, and I'll see you around the GB campus.
