About Me

I've just recently retired after working in developing commercial properties. I always enjoyed my job and didn't retire until I was 79 years old. It's been an adjustment being home all day after all these years but I'm enjoying it. I still like to do yard work and handyman type chores around the home. I'm not the person I was physically, but there is still a lot I can do and contribute, and I just believe that it's important to enjoy what ever it is you're doing.

Father's Day is on a lot of people's minds, and I just wanted to point out something that not a lot of people think about. See, to someone my age, and I'm 81, the best thing about Father's Day is that it led the way for me to become a grandfather. It...

Family

w[4420] My wife and I passed the 50 year mark in 2006. We do as many things as we can together, not because we have to, but because we like to! We have three adult sons and only one grandson. My whole life I've always been the one to look after everyone in the family. I still am the first to step up and offer to help family members with doctor visits, running errands and whatever they need. I'm glad I'm in a position to be able to help.

My Favorites

Interests

I enjoy building things, fixing things and figuring out how things are made. I'm a do-it-yourself person wherever it's possible. I have a number of bird feeders in the yard and I enjoy watching all the different species gather around them. I work out every day and believe that's very important. I work with light weights and I ride the stationary bike.

Books

I tend to stick to newspapers and magazines for the most part.

Foods

There are many excellent restaurants everywhere, supermarkets carry a great selection of quality products, but do you know what I miss the most? You just cannot find enough small, local, family run bakeries. I miss everything about them! The smells, the pastries, cookies, pies and other goodies and I especially miss the freshly baked breads! I think many people don't realize what a treat a plain piece of hot, fresh bread could be.

Music

I enjoy tuning in the light rock, easy listening and classic standards stations on the radio. No, I don't have an ipod and I don't use iTunes... Yet!

Movies

It's been a long time since I've been to a theater. With so many choices at home it's too easy to stay home.

Television

I watch a LOT of PBS. I watch a LOT of sports, and I always watch the news.

Heroes

My heroes were the people I served with in World War II. Other than that we sure could use more heroes these days, couldn't we?
