About Me

I'm all about attitude, just like the Web site -- some days, my attitude is better than others!  But I honestly believe that we get out of life what we put into it ... so I'm going to keep finding ways to look on the bright side. Just call me Pollyanna (yes, I watched a lot of Disney movies when I was growing up ... I still love That Darn Cat and Parent Trap)

    Hi Katy-

I enjoy GBTV...Well done!Writing from up here in chilly Mass, where we're still basking in the afterglow of the Senate Race...Haven't felt so much energy here since Sox in '04.

We've been vacationing at The Villages for past 3 years, and look forward to returinging in April.

I work for at TV station in Worcester and wondered if you'd be interested in having your show air up here? We're owned and viewed on Charter Cable to 180,000 homes in Central Mass. www.chartertv3.com

I/we produce a lot of local(award-winning) programming and we may be able to share stories of other 55+ Bolder Americans.

Let me know your thoughts...and keep up the good work.

    Best,

    Dave Bedard

TweetDeck for iPhone - I'm not impressed.  It looks slick, however I expected more functionality. C+.

    Hey Katy,

Your energy is pushing against my body and has actually caused it to move.......get back to the things I love.  Have had a time to heal for 18 months grieving over a lost love and NOW!-- to the future.  You helped do this, a return to art and dance:  watercolor class, fused glass instruction, pottery, tooled copper, ballroom dancing, Tai Chi and actually being a bit friendly rather than shy.  Oh, and that dreaded word.......cooking!!   Yesterday I made something edible--not out of a box.  Keep showing me the way and the courage so this 74 yr-old will stay on track to enjoy life.

    Thank you.

Katy, figures you were a busy student afterschool... and life hasn't slowed down since you are probably more busy than ever. Thanks for all your encouraging words and work to make Growing Bolder so successful. Glad to be part of the journey. Happy belated birthday... and St. Patty's day. -dwight

    Hi Katy,
Thanks for the idea about moving furniture from one room to another. When re-decorating my family room I did move a piece of the entertainment center into my living room and it looks wonderful there. It looks like an armoire. Now I think I'll look around and

see what else I can switch around.

    Thanks again,

    Ann

Thanks for the tip in your vlog about the story you guys were working on - I just checked out the video of Randy the volunteer and it was great. Mark and I will have to visit the gardens one of these days and hopefully we'll get to meet Randy while we are there. Very inspiring piece!

More About Me

Hometown

Holliston, MA

Family

I am married, with a family of furry friends. I have two cats that rule the roost in my house, and two dogs that try and fight for space. You can see some pictures of them by clicking Media under my profile picture.

Education

Needham High School, Needham, MA 1994-1995
Holliston High School 1995-1998
Syracuse University (go 'Cuse!) 1998-2002
Still Learning!

Goals

To keep finding new ways to Grow Bolder ... to travel to Europe ... to learn to speak a new language ... Now that I've completed one of my biggest goals (I've completed my first, second and third triathlons!), I've added a new physical endurance goal to my list -- completing a half-marathon!

People I'd like to meet

Anyone who is Growing Bolder ... also, Oprah, Tiger Woods, Pat Benetar, Tom Brokaw, my family in Australia.

My Favorites

Interests

Writing, reading, working out. I love to sing ... surf the internet ... I'm a news junkie. Playing with my dogs ... swimming ... I am learning to love cooking. I thought I hated it -- I even said so in a previous version of my profile -- but what I now know is that I hate cooking without a recipe. If I have something I can follow, then I really enjoy it. :)

Books

Just finished "The Corrections" from Jonathan Franzen. I'm in the middle of "Leap!" by Sara Davidson. I love anything by Nora Roberts or Iris Johansen. And some recent favorites include "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert and "The Secret."

Foods

Yum ... anything made with, from, near chocolate. Especially dark chocolate. Dark chocolate that's been frozen. Dark chocolate that has been frozen, on top of cookies and cream ice cream. Dark chocolate that has been frozen, on top of cookies and cream ice cream with a cup of cappuccino on the side. Should I continue?

Music

Hip hop, top 40 ... I'm still a Britney Spears fan, I can't help myself!! Classic rock ... I love Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Credence Clearwater Revival, Huey Lewis and the News, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne. I love Billy Joel!! I'm a big fan of musicals, especially Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Closer Than Ever, Movin' Out, Working, Anything Goes, Music Man and Guys And Dolls.

Movies

The Cutting Edge
To Kill A Mockingbird
Die Hard ... all of them!
Office Space
Anything with Brad Pitt or Matt Damon

Television

I'm a news junkie, so I typically watch local news in the morning and at least part of The Today Show. At night, I am a slave to the DVR. I watch lots of shows on tape: No Reservations, Iron Chef, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, etc. The Office, Law and Order (any of them), Kitchen Nightmares, MTV documentaries, and more.

Passions/Hobbies

I love to write, as you can tell from my blogs. I love to sing and perform, although I haven't done it publicly in a while. I like to dance.

Heroes

Jackie Shaner Carlin, Oprah, Bernadette Peters, Ed Hochuli, Tom Brady, Curt Schilling. And Fred the Fitness Guy. Check out his profile -- amazing!!
