About Me

Retired after working 25 years in the V.P. law department at a large health sciences university as a senior contract assistant. Currently editor of two sites at BellaOnline.com and on the editorial board (fiction section) of its literary magazine Mused. I am also the owner of a 15 year direct selling home business through Watkins, I specialize in herbs, spices and flavorings. You can visit my links below. BTW Watkins sister site, a web journal A Better Cook just received one of two Bravenet's Journal of Week Award.

Additionally, I have a seldom updated movie review Blog as a result of writing movie reviews for an online site. (I was asked to make the movie blog live, so here it is Going to the Movies with Vannie   My personal links are listed below in links section.

These days I spend my time writing copy for my columns, taking a few home biz on a shoe string clients and giving back to my community, I have chaired several committees. I usually manage to get away to the Jersey shore every two or three months. I love being able to spend 3 and 4 days away, it's not too much or too little time. Mostly I sit on the boardwalk and read, watch fishermen/women, sip wine on the ocean-view balcony and wave to folks in boats.

I do not have an active Blog at GB, but I do have considerable Blog and forum response activity.

Thank you Vannie, for your nice comment! I have read some of these authors, but not all them. I was introduced to most of them by some classic movies, that´s how I really got to like their work.
You are right, Henrik Ibsen is very special....

    Kind regards,
    Chris

Thanks for the friend request!  I see we have a couple of movies in common as our favorites - The Women (1939) and Green Card.  I must add The Proposal with Sandra Bullock in that group.  I can watch Green Card followed by The Proposal anytime and I have The Women (1939) on VHS and DVD so I can watch it anywhere I am.  I love to introduce people to original The Women.  It is definately way before it's time.    As a matter of fact, I remember when I first saw it 20 years ago and always remembered it.    I do have a passion for b/w movies.    AMC used to show a lot of b/w movies, but then started showing more up to date classics.  I was so overjoyed when TCM was available in my area.

Hi, Vannie - Thanks for commenting on my short story. I love to write; in fact, I generally write a short story a day. Professionally, I am a technical writer and editor so creative writing in my off time works well. Take care. Bernie

    Hi Vannie,

Thank you for commenting on my blog and finishing your profile.  You've been busy, lady!  When I was teaching art, I had my students study and design album covers for Kenny G music.  We surely have that favorite (Kenny) in common.  I also enjoyed The Solid Gold Cadillac and especially Born Yesterday.  Keep up your good work and sharing attitude.

More About Me

Hometown

New Jersey

Family

My immediate family is me, myself and I. However, I do have four wonderful brothers and four wonderful sister-in-laws. I love the SIS almost as much as I love my baby brothers. I have way too many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews to count. Sometimes I spook the older ones out, because I look so much like grandma (my mom). I also have an extended family daughter, whom I love dearly.

Education

High school. Some college (business admn), a paralegal certificate. I had promised myself that I would go back to school to get my college degree, but I know now that I won't. Still, I do take at least one class every year because I am a forever learner.

Goals

My goal is to be as happy as I can be in the time that I have left.

People I'd like to meet

Through the years I have met many wonderful people, some well known, others not so much. I have no burning desire to meet anyone in particular. If I keep going the way I am, I am sure to meet people who will bring a unique experience into my life.

My Favorites

Interests

I love to read, cook and watch old b/w movies. I like community voluntering, I also enjoy making jewelry; but do not work with seed beads. I enjoy the theater, it doesn't matter if it is Broadway or regional. I saw my first play at 17 and have been hooked since that time.

Books

Nora Roberts, J. D. Robb "In Death" series, mysteries & most noir authors, cozies, romance/multicultural romance, biographies, history and most contemporary novels. I enjoy Debbie Macomber's warm, from-the-heart "Cedar Cove" series.

Foods

I like hot and spicy foods. I eat meat but would not miss it, if told I could not have it. Love every type bean, pasta and vegetables. Do not like celery raw, but enjoy it sauteed and served like asparagus, plain or with a white cream sauce.

Music

I love jazz fusion, the kind that Kenny G plays; real blues, most 70'/80's music, some opera and pretty much anything that Sting sings/plays.

Movies

The Women (original), Desk Set, Daughter's of the Dust, Eve's Bayou, Pretty Woman, Crossing Delancey, Now Voyager, The Thin Man, My Man Godfrey, Born Yesterday, The Solid Gold Cadillac, The Beguiled, Green Card, Michael... Just about any noir film; A or B, it doesn't matter.

Show me an old movie and I will follow you anywhere ;)

Television

Brit-coms, Masterpiece mystery, cooking shows, History Detectives, PBS news and finance shows. I also love Two and a Half Men (as always I discovered this show in reruns) Yessss, I know it's trashy...

Passions/Hobbies

My passions are reading, writing, cooking and watching old black and white and noir movies. Oh yes, and rain.

Heroes

Reginald Francis Lewis, financier; Gordan Parks, photographer/writer; former President Jimmy Carter, humanitarian
