Do You Support Obama's Healthcare Plan?

According to a CNN Poll, there’s a generational divide over President Obama's healthcare plan.  The plan is most popular among younger Americans and least popular among senior citizens. What do you think? Have you read the plan? Do you Understand the plan? Do you support universal healthcare? Leave a reply. Write a blog. Weigh in.

My feeling overall is that I'm thrilled people are talking about health care at all -- and the fact that there is an actual plan to debate gives me great hope. No matter what your political party is, it seems like we all understand that the current system is unjust and does not protect enough Americans.

As for President Obama's plan? It's ambitious. I like to think his heart is in the right place, and I believe him when he says he just wants to make health care coverage accessible to more people.

I think that, just like during the presidential campaign itself, too many facts are getting obscured by rumors and wild accusations about "death panels" and more. I hope that people take a few minutes to review the plan and decide for themselves if it's something they support, rather than picking sides based on picket signs.

I found this resource to be pretty helpful:

I'd love to see what others think!

I do NOT support Obama's so called health care plan.  I don't even like the idea of Medicare.  I'm not in favor of the government having any say in my personal decisions.  This is a free country and some people are just thinking they are going to get Free health care with his plan and that is not going to happen.  What happened to his platform he ran on saying wouldn't we like to have the same health care plan that congress has.  He has made no mention of that since taking office.  Oh and do they go on Medicare when they turn 65?

I don't like the idea of  having to go on Medicare when you turn 65 either. If you already have a healthcare plan provided through a retirement package what is the reasoning behind that?  No wonder the government is in so much debt.  My husband started drawing his social security at 62 then was bumped to Medicare at age 65 this past May and they started deducting $100 a month for Medicare.  That is $1200 a year they are taking from us we could use for something else or put in savings and we had better heath care coverage before they put him on Medicare.  I do not want to be forced onto something that is not as good as what we already have.  It is not fair.

Example:  My husbands pills for his cancer were $7000 a month.  Our insurance picked it all up except $183 a month.  Then when he was bumped to Medicare his first payment before they would send his pills was $4200 and $383 a month after that. (He didn't get to take his pills for 3 weeks because of a problem with Medicare)  Now tell me something is not right here.  And then Medicare had the gall to send me a letter saying if they hadn't picked up the $2800 we would have had to pay the whole $7000.  I intended to send them a letter back letting them know they did NOT do me any favors by picking it up.  So watch your news...you may see me on it.  LOL  Now tell me you want the government handling your health care.

There are lots of people out there that can afford health care that choose not to get it and go to free clinics or emergency rooms for care.  Those people are one of our big problems.  If you are really poor and need government assistance fine...that is what Medicaid is for.

I have let my representative and Senator know how I feel.

I haven't finalized my decisions about what "plan" I will support, but it will be along the lines of what President Obama has spoken of.  I know it is a huge jump between theory and reality, but I'm hanging on to supporting the theory right now.  I feel I am already subsidizing health care for those who can't pay AND for those who do nothing because they know they can't pay.  I would much rather that the money I currently spend went toward an organized and sensible way of ensuring that everyone gets the care he or she needs.  Maybe regular check-ups will prevent more expensive and invasive procedures in the future.  Right now, my mind is open...

I don't want government messing with health care! Health care insurance is not a right, it's a privilege. That said, I do think costs are out of control and need to be curbed. But it needs to be through oversight and some regulation...Health care costs are high, in my opinion, because of unfounded litigation.

We have too many lawyers in this country willing to sue at the drop of the hat. We need to hold folks responsible for unwarranted lawsuits...if you loose a lawsuit, you pay for court costs, period. We also need to make illegal aliens pay their fare share instead of forcing our rates higher to cover them. Close our borders and see what happens...If we can curb abuse, health care costs will lower themselves! Ed in Chino Hills, CA (53)

It doesn't sound as though your mind is open...how about we get rid of all the freeloaders and send them back to Mexico...then make people pay for frivolous lawsuits. The last entity we need in charge of health care is our government who can't even buy a wrench or a toilet seat for less than $1,000! I want the same health coverage that the congress has!!!

    Answer to Question: NO!!!

The underlying reason is that if Medicare and Medacade, along with Social Security are all in such a mess, why would anyone want to add to the country's misery. The same bureaucrats who operate the current system(s) would then be allowed to manage the new system.

I would like to see the Government personnel be included in that same programs particularly the Senators and Congressmen...then I might re-consider - no forget that thought - the plan stinks.

    Hello:

    You are not thinking logically.

Also, if it were me I would not subsidize with my tax money your husband's overly expensive drug costs, knowing that in every other democracy the drugs would cost
1/4 to 1/3 what they cost in the US.

I don't like paying drug companies who are scamming your husband and therefore, me.

Katy, That's no resource of information but instead an op ed from an Ohio media outlet...don't be fooled! Read between the lines and you see that doctors will be paid for "end-of-life" decision counseling...give me a break! Seniors have the right idea to be scared.I don't trust the government to do the right thing...unless by that you mean line their pockets!

I support a single payer plan system phased in over a seven year period, beginning in 2010
with a single payer option. Then giving medical insurance companies seven years to
become competitive with the public plan and if they cannot -- find new areas of insurance revenue for their shareholders.
