Ok, just one more thing I forgot to mention. In the words of Jon Stewart, President Obama is not a magic negro. Every president arrives with ideals that are left or right, and wind up more or less in the center, just leaning a little in one direction or the other. No president succeeds in making every dream come true. The government is designed with checks and balances designed to prevent dictatorship. So he cannot deliver on every promise, nor can any president, ever. He also cannot address every single petty little issue. What's important to me is not necessarily important on a national level, and what's happening here in my home and in my town does not necessarily reflect the entire nation. I accept that.

Not in my life time has a President acted as O. He has thumbed his nose at the Constitution and has empowered the bureaucracy to regulate every facet of life in the United States. The decision process has been removed from the Congress and placed in the hands of the annointed appointments O has made. These appointees do the bidding of O and his agenda. So, he is unlike any other president in my life time and the people of the United States are being tricked by the huge number of hit men he has appointed and all the hoop-la that is orchestrated by O to confuse. O is kept in power by big business and the hoard of folks who get cash payments from the government. O is buying loyalty and votes and he will never have go to the center and he won't.

How much should he defund the military in your opinion?
Of the total global military budget spending, the U.S. spends 45.6%, more than most of the world combined. The next biggest military is China, and they spend 6.5% of the total budget. We can reduce military spending by 1/3 and still have a military presence that dwarfs the combined total of more than half the world. But it wouldn't take that much to cover the needs of the American people. Just a few percentage points would translate to billions of dollars in education and medical fixes.
AND, the US is the first county world turns to when peace keeping is needed. Look at the UN’s demands of US funds and resources.
Do you consider defense spending a waste of money that should go to the poor?
Nope. I think I've made it clear that I am not in favor of welfare programs. I am, however, in favor of programs like the Catherine Ferguson Academy in Detroit that admits pregnant teens and teens with children and teaches them to grow food as they groom them for college. The school has a 90% graduation rates and 100% college acceptance rates for graduates. This type of program is what we need.
Where does our US Constitution say the Federal government is responsible for educating our youth. It is a state issue. The financial troubles of Detroit and Michigan are not a federal issue. They are due to the autoworkers pushing automobile manufacturing to bankruptcy. Yes, the corporate leaders gave in to the unions, but at the risk of destroying the companies even sooner.
How many out of wedlock kids do you have? Did it require a college education to not get pregnant before you had a means of supporting your babies??
BTW, In Idaho and California, these out of wedlock babies and their mothers get support from Christian Charity organizations. I bet it is the same in many areas.
Unfortunately, the school was closed and students who protested were arrested this week. Detroit elected officials have been usurped by an emergency manager, who also plans to close the Detroit Day School for the Deaf and 7 more schools. 45 other schools will be sold to charter companies. Hundreds of teachers will be laid off. This is a poignantly clear picture of teabag budget philosophy, and why I find it so offensive. Award tax cuts to the VERY rich and arrest pregnant black girls trying to save their school...and their only hope for a future.
Regarding the poor, I think those who make under $30,000 per household to be the poor. The rich are those who make over $250,000.
I agree. In fact, We make right about 100Kish, and if we had 20K more, we'd be very comfortable, if not exactly well off. I know this from experience and from discussing budgets with my brothers, who make a similar income and face similar family money issues.
Many rich are not wealthy because they live above their means. I am disgusted by the wining that comes from families who make over $100,000 per year.
Depending on where you live and who you are, 100k is not that much. We live in a very expensive area and cannot move because my husband's job won't transfer him. If we had this salary 3 hours NE, where my mom lives, we'd be seriously well off. She's in a rural area where we could get food directly from farms, the cost of land and homes is a fraction of what it is here, and the utility costs are lower.
I thought you said UPS took very good care of your husband and his family. A transfer sounds like it is a reasonable request.
I am disgusted by those who receive food assistance but are grossly overweight. We are the only nation that makes it a habit to give food to the obese.
That might be the most clueless and bigoted thing you've ever said. Poor people feed their children food they can afford. Cheap stuff, like potatoes, white bread and fatty meats.
Potatoes and fatty meats are not the cause of adult obesity. White bread may not be a healthy diet but it does not singularly cause obesity. And, whole wheat bread is no more expensive unless you buy the premium brands. Our kids never had white bread. Potatoes are a very healthy food. duh... Idaho potatoes.
In inner cities, going outside is dangerous, so kids have no opportunity to get exercise. The first thing cut from every school budget is P.E. and we've been cutting school budgets for a long time.
Federal money is not for schools. Some goes to underfunded but mandated programs like free breakfasts, lunches, and now even dinners. Where does our Constitution direct the federal government to fund schools?
And if you've got $5 bucks to feed a family of 4, McDonalds sells a $1 double cheeseburger that will fill bellies better than a head of broccoli and a quarter pound of lean meat.
Better than a head of broccoli and some meat? $1.00 for a 1/5 pound of meat and a thin slice of cheese. That is very a high price for meat and cheese.
It's ugly, but it's the truth. Real food is more expensive than crap.
Don’t tell that to my wife. She will quickly prove you wrong. A bag of whole rice, pinto beans, some cheap chicken or pork, greens. We have been on limited food budgets and a dollar can stretch with just a bit of effort in the kitchen. And, eating the meal together.
We need to lower the cost of food and raise the nutritional education values. People learn to cook from their parents. In my father's deep south family, that means frying everything in lard and smothering it in red-eye gravy made from drippings. Fortunately, my mother is from an island off the coast of Honduras and she grew up eating beans, vegetables, chicken, seafood and fruit. She taught me to cook - not my paternal relatives.
We give money to people who play the lottery. We give money to people who spend it on tobacco, alcoholic beverages and energy drinks.
You can't buy that stuff with government funds. you can argue that they buy groceries with welfare and buy the other stuff with their own money, but it's immaterial because it can't be policed.
But, why do we allow so many liquor stores and lottery sellers in the poorest neighborhoods? Because liberals who pushed for lotteries to fun a pittance of education know that the poor will spend a disproportionate amount of their money on these vices.
LOTTERIES ARE NOT ESTABLISHED BY REPUBLICANS
We pay for daycare for mothers who do not go to work.
Where did you get this information? I don't think it's true. Please show me the source (sounds like Limbaugh)
Read some of Star Parker’s works. She did it and sees others doing it. Check up on Head Start. In the name of giving kids an early start on education (studies show it to be of little value), we provide free daycare.
We give tax breaks to Bruce Springstein, Max Weinberg, Jon Bon Jovi for allowing their land to be used for minor agricultural hobbies or ventures. Then, we sell the homes of little old ladies because they can't afford to pay their property taxes. Ted Turner, Sam Donaldson, and many others in the news business get huge tax breaks because they have agricultural hobbies on their land.
Watch it. You're sounding like a Democrat again.
Before you complain too much about defense spending, there are many families who are dependent on the defense industry and do not get paid highly.
So, where do you want to cut?
Do I think soldiers should get less pay or benefits? I do not. In an attempt to answer this question, I looked for a specific breakdown of military spending and did not find one. However, it's common knowledge that defense contracts are highly lucrative.
COMMON KNOWLEDGE? HIGHLY LUCRATIVE? Just more liberal blather. Very few make lucrative incomes off defense contracts. I have lived in the Defense Industry. Silicon Valley was developed as a Defense Industry hub but the money was made when the defense technologies were put to use for the non-defense world. Find and read a book called Spy Capitalism. The defense contracts were the least lucrative part of ITech’s business. The part of defense contracting that is lucrative is the support of Congress criters on both sides of the isle. Washington state has very few Republicans in government but a huge defense industry. They recently moved to Chicago to utilize the liberal politics of Chicago for the company’s betterment. My father and his co-workers could have made far more money in non-defense work. Defense work has GSA cost controls. That is why you hear of $500 toilets. The federal bureaucracy required in all of the pricing of projects adds an enormous amount to the bills. Who likes to expand the jobs in the federal government? Democrats and George W Bush.
My cousin makes a living driving a truck that transports bomb parts around the country from contractor to contractor and from finished project to base. We make a lot of bombs.
Notice how the bombs are made in areas that need jobs.
Wonder how many are decommissioned because they are out of date? Wonder what we will do with all of them, since deploying them would mean the end of the world? More firepower than can ever be used is a waste.
Do you carry fire insurance on your house? When is the last time you had a devastating house fire? But, in the rare circumstance when you have one, you want the reserves of the insurance company to pay for the rebuild. The USA is the Insurance Company for the free world.
Read up on the use of Military Readiness and Military Deterrence to maintain peace. Is your cousin getting rich? GE is getting rich off government contracts and very little has any defense value. $14 billion dollars in profit and no taxes paid. GE CEO Jeffrey Imelt is a confidant of Obama.
Should we abandon Israel and leave the Israeli people to the Muslim tyrants?
Nope. But why did you single Israel out? There are a lot of countries worthy of our support, and not all of them are threatened by big scary Muslims. Are you planning to ask me about each of them in turn?
The Arabs and Muslims and Obama want to destroy the best thing that has happened to the Middle East. The technology that has come out of Israel is amazing, both in agriculture and industry. The Palestinians that Obama supports have wasted the agricultural technology left behind when the Israelis left Gaza. It was the produce basket of the area. Now, Palestinians are being starved by their own leaders. And, Obama refuses to speak up about the truth.
BTW, the water tables are being damaged by French investors as much if not more than the oil industry. Floridians are over-drawing drinking and irrigation water causing salt water intrusion into fresh water aquifers.
How are French investors damaging the water tables?
The French are buying up the water rights to exploit for their own profits. They have been doing this for over two decades. We have a water company called United Water that is French controlled. Much of the Mississippi aquifer in middle America is owned by French investors for exploitation. Why own the land when you can own the water under the land? Look at the depletion of the Mississippi aquifer.
1. (Unless you're referring to mining tar sands and the pipeline running from Canada to the gulf. I've already got a pretty good handle on that)
The technology that is going into separating water from oil is making this a non-issue. And, it is a technology that is being developed with private funds to meet EPA demands.
2. "Everybody's doing it" is a poor excuse. Oil companies are raking in obscene profits while avoiding responsibility for the mess they make.
Obama caused the oil spill mess. He blocked the aid of other countries and foreign oil companies by demanding federal control of the recovery process. His union bosses demanded union workers gain control over and clean up the mess.
Btw, How is your husband’s UPS truck fueled? And the other vehicles in the UPS fleet. Do you drive a car? Oil is a necessity. Government and the liberal tree huggers get in the way of good business management programs and technology that can take care of the problems. The Chicago style liberalism says progress only happens when the politicians get their cut. Now, we have a Washington DC on steroids. Obama has been building on the Bush W legacy.
Have you observed the wealth generated by UPS? Why has your family been locked out.
3. Florida has water restrictions, and has since I can remember. Many businesses and homes irrigate with "gray water". But we have to bathe, drink water, and irrigate crops.
How many people should be allowed to live on this planet? Do you have a number in mind? Or, should we use technology to provide for the population growth? Should we keep letting foreigners into this country when they have no desire to melt into the melting pot?
What belief are you accusing me of now? Eugenics? Nazism? forced sterilization?
I'm a practical person. I know that you can't stop people from having sex and you can't sterilize them against their will. So the best we can do is provide education and birth control. If we take that away from poor people, then only the poor people will multiply.
Eugenics as promoted by Margaret Sanger. You have swallowed the bait, hook, line, and sinker. She knew that if the poor were released to their own undisciplined sexual proclivities, they would forever be locked in the ghetto. Look at the demographic of Appalachia for decades. The ultra poor did not have babies with no father to support them. They called them “SHOT GUN WEDDINGS” It was a cultural thing for fathers to support their babies. Now, the federal government is Big Daddy so no need for the real fathers.
Rich, well educated people will continue to birth responsibly, which means fewer people in control of more money and a massive number of people living in poverty. Which sounds so familiar somehow.
And, we should support the failed Sex Ed in schools that has supported this problem.
Conservative politics addresses none of these questions. None. If this is what you're asking, you're arguing for the wrong side, although within your words is a bigoted "us" vs "them" mentality. We all know who "them" are.
Tell me who you think I consider “them” to be. My father was the first generation in his family to get a college education. He lived in poverty but his mother made him work and save money to go to college.
I was in college but went a different direction because of affirmative action. AA made it very difficult for a white male to get into a dental or medical school. Even white females had a difficult time. Only whites with wealthy alumni contacts had easy access to grad programs. Now, we have a medical establishment rife with malpractice and other problems because under-qualified students got admitted at the expanse of more qualified applicants. Quota doc is my term. I have been mis-treated by many of them. Yes, there are a few that are highly capable. But, not the majority in my personal experience.

AND, the US is the first county world turns to when peace keeping is needed. Look at the UN’s demands of US funds and resources.
What's your point? If we cut defense spending, we have to learn to say no to war. Diplomacy, economic sanctions and joint effort work better that ill-advised cowboy action predicated upon info we know to be false.
Where does our US Constitution say the Federal government is responsible for educating our youth. It is a state issue.
Since the slave days, a couple of things have changed. Women can vote now and everything. Shame, right? Can't send poor kids off to die in factories by the time they're 8, can't sell your 12 year old daughter to a middle aged man who can afford a fitting dowry, can't prevent black people from learning to read. Damn. Education has been recognized as a basic human need and not a necessity available only to rich white boys. Where have you been since 1918? Why did it take a black man in office to get you all riled up over federal funding of public education if you really think for yourself?
The financial troubles of Detroit and Michigan are not a federal issue. They are due to the autoworkers pushing automobile manufacturing to bankruptcy. Yes, the corporate leaders gave in to the unions, but at the risk of destroying the companies even sooner.
Oh, those poor, poor automobile corporations. So sad that they raked in so very few billions in profit while turning out inferior product and laying off American workers. They couldn't possibly be in trouble because of mismanagement and slow response to market demands for better engineering, so it must be about employees salaries. If only they had recognized sooner that people wanted more fuel efficient engines that would allow them to compete with Japan. Excuse me, I think I'm going to weep now.
How many out of wedlock kids do you have? Did it require a college education to not get pregnant before you had a means of supporting your babies??
You realize this isn't about me, right? I'm not a welfare mother and I don't live in the ghetto.
BTW, In Idaho and California, these out of wedlock babies and their mothers get support from Christian Charity organizations. I bet it is the same in many areas.
What services do they supply? Do they support mother and child until the child is of school age - or until the child is 16 and legally able to work, if you get your way and abolish schools? Exactly how much support do the church charities offer? Are you suggesting that churches can - and should - take the place of welfare?
I thought you said UPS took very good care of your husband and his family. A transfer sounds like it is a reasonable request.
UPS is a good company. They offer excellent pay and benefits, but they do not transfer.
Potatoes and fatty meats are not the cause of adult obesity.
Poor diet, along with genetics and inactivity, are the exact cause of childhood and adult obesity. You're cherry-picking my statements. Congratulations, grasshopper, you have learned well from your puppeteers.
Federal money is not for schools. Some goes to underfunded but mandated programs like free breakfasts, lunches, and now even dinners. Where does our Constitution direct the federal government to fund schools?
The constitution doesn't mention air traffic controllers either. Like schools, such things didn't exist.
Better than a head of broccoli and some meat? $1.00 for a 1/5 pound of meat and a thin slice of cheese. That is very a high price for meat and cheese.
It's filling and affordable, not healthy. That's the point.
Don’t tell that to my wife. She will quickly prove you wrong. A bag of whole rice, pinto beans, some cheap chicken or pork, greens.
You can get all that for $4? Wow. I need to move to Idaho. I can't even buy a chicken for $4.
But, why do we allow so many liquor stores and lottery sellers in the poorest neighborhoods? Because liberals who pushed for lotteries to fun a pittance of education know that the poor will spend a disproportionate amount of their money on these vices.
Really? The government runs those? All this time I thought liquor stores and lottery sellers were privately owned. Is is part of the vast left wing government conspiracy?
Within walking distance of my (upper-middle-class suburban) neighborhood are 2 liquor stores and at least 6 places to buy lottery tickets. The government must be trying to keep white people down, too.
Read some of Star Parker’s works. She did it and sees others doing it. Check up on Head Start. In the name of giving kids an early start on education (studies show it to be of little value), we provide free daycare.
Oh, I completely disagree. I was a volunteered for my kid's school and spent 3 days a week in class. There was a noticeable difference between kids who had attended preschool programs and those who had not. The programs teach kids the basic concepts, but more importantly, they teach them socialization and classroom-appropriate behavior.
Funny that you mention Star Parker. Here's a direct quote:
"Study after study, for instance, shows that the biggest factor in earning power is education and the biggest factor in educational success is family background and the values prevailing in the home of the child.
A Rand study concluded that $500 billion would be added annually to our GDP if test scores of black and Latino children reached national averages."
Now why does that sound familiar? Oh, right, because I believe in education, too.
COMMON KNOWLEDGE? HIGHLY LUCRATIVE? Just more liberal blather. Very few make lucrative incomes off defense contracts. I have...My father...
Ah. well, it IS all about you and your personal experiences. Have you considered a manifesto? I'm thinking you can call it "The Doctrine of Mark." You could outline all your personal observations in place of fact. It would go over well with conservatives.
I worked for Siemens for a while. Did I mention that? Probably not. Friend of mine was a (literal) rocket scientist for Lockheed-Martin. My cousin is a contractor in Iraq right this minute. He works for a company with a lucrative government contract. He left his $30k per year job go overseas. He will make $120K per year plus overtime with all expenses paid. He is doing the exact same job he left. It has something to do with welding, I think.
Who likes to expand the jobs in the federal government? Democrats and George W Bush.
Check your history. No republican president has ever reduced the size of the government. Not even a little.
Notice how the bombs are made in areas that need jobs.
erm. so?
Do you carry fire insurance on your house? When is the last time you had a devastating house fire? But, in the rare circumstance when you have one, you want the reserves of the insurance company to pay for the rebuild. The USA is the Insurance Company for the free world.
I think insurance is a ripoff, remember?
Read up on the use of Military Readiness and Military Deterrence to maintain peace. Is your cousin getting rich?
Beats me, I don't have the financial statements of everyone I know. And are you familiar with the concept of overkill?
GE is getting rich off government contracts and very little has any defense value. $14 billion dollars in profit and no taxes paid. GE CEO Jeffrey Imelt is a confidant of Obama.
GE is not the only corporation not paying taxes, and it's all perfectly legal. GE didn't pay taxes when Bush was president, either. This isn't new. President Obama is working to end corporate tax evasion.
Please post a link to the source of this information. I can't wait too read about it.
Huh. So you're against privatization of water? There's nothing in the Constitution that guarantees us water, or about the government funds to maintain aquifers. Seems like you'd be all for selling the rights to corporations. It's right in line with your beliefs. Oh, wait. This one could affect you...and not only poor people. I get it.
Obama caused the oil spill mess. He blocked the aid of other countries and foreign oil companies by demanding federal control of the recovery process. His union bosses demanded union workers gain control over and clean up the mess.
Seriously. Stop watching fox.
Btw, How is your husband’s UPS truck fueled? And the other vehicles in the UPS fleet. Do you drive a car? Oil is a necessity.
Oil is only a necessity until we run out. Then vehicle manufacturers will have to find a claner, more efficient alternate.
Have you observed the wealth generated by UPS? Why has your family been locked out.
You don't know how much money we have or what our investment portfolio looks like. Nor do I intend to disclose this information.
Eugenics as promoted by Margaret Sanger. You have swallowed the bait, hook, line, and sinker. She knew that if the poor were released to their own undisciplined sexual proclivities, they would forever be locked in the ghetto. Look at the demographic of Appalachia for decades.
1. Choice is choice. It is not eugenics. Look up the meaning of both words.
2. Appalachia is no better off today. I have a friend there, a fellow writer from a stereotypical family. Shotgun weddings are out of fashion, but unwed teenage pregnancy is popular and poverty is deep and wide. My friend is 24. Her son is 7. Her mother is 39. She, her husband and their son live in the 600 sq. ft. basement of the house built by her great-great-great grandfather. The house itself is packed with people. They are all white.
And, we should support the failed Sex Ed in schools that has supported this problem.
Women become pregnant for a number of reasons. In many cases, young girls feel unloved and want what other people have, to fulfill a basic human need for filial affection. Some want a meal ticket, thinking erroneously that babydaddy will step up and rescue them from the misery of home life (many teenagers are miserable). Anyway, the reasons for having children are complicated and varied. Sex ed can't stop people from doing stupid things, but that doesn't mean it's a failure.
I was in college but went a different direction because of affirmative action. AA made it very difficult for a white male to get into a dental or medical school.
Even white females had a difficult time.
According to an earlier post, you would not have made it through medical school anyway. You couldn't concentrate. So you should probably let that bottled up anger go. I'd also like to point out that affirmative action accounted for only a small percentage of college graduates. You seem to think it's the majority. Nope.
Only whites with wealthy alumni contacts had easy access to grad programs. Now, we have a medical establishment rife with malpractice and other problems because under-qualified students got admitted at the expanse of more qualified applicants. Quota doc is my term. I have been mistreated by many of them. Yes, there are a few that are highly capable. But, not the majority in my personal experience.
So you're saying that all your doctors have been...what? Black? Seems odd, since you said earlier that your area is largely white. Here in Florida, a large percentage of doctors seem to be from Pakistan or India, but I attribute that to the high cost of doing business here. I've been disappointed by a number of doctors, but most of them have been white. I don't really think that's an ethnic thing. It's more of a too-busy-making-a-buck-to-pay-attention thing.

As far as compression stockings, there is always the low cost alternative of wearing several regular pair of pantyhose, even the 99 cent variety - as long as they are not ultra sheer. The more pair of pantyhose worn, the greater the degree of compression, though I find half a dozen to be well within comfort level.

"same-old" "same-old" Everyone has their own ax to grind and skews the facts to fit their own beliefs which appears to be human nature. Katy appears to have the most objective take on this issue. Battle on!

yeah you tell them doc. i am with you ,
