About Me

From Growing Bolder:
Dr. Dot Richardson is inspiration and energy personified. She captained the U.S. Olympic softball team that took home the gold in 1996 and 2000 while working her way through medical school in orthopedic surgery.

Dot was an NBC Sports broadcaster for the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece, and most recently, was named Commissioner of the ProFastpitch X-Treme Tour.

A born athlete, Dot developed a passion for softball at a time when women were confined to “women’s sports.” She broke down barriers and never allowed anyone to tell her she couldn’t just because she was a girl.

Today, she's the Director and Medical Director of the U.S. Triathlon Training Center and shares with audiences the secret to making dreams come true.

    Hi Dot,

A legend in your own time and inspiration to many, you are among the select women I admire most. (Doesn't hurt that your name is the same as my beloved Mama's )  I'm excited to find you here!

A friend's daughter (from Jacksonville) is participating in a triathlon in September, and I watched some of the training and dedication in awe... so much more than the professional athletes around whom I spent my early adult years. Add all of your other accomplishments, and, well, you're simply a wonder!

I've also worked some with (and been a client of) an incredible doctor - MD, PhD, DNM, researcher with 10+ international patents, recipient of one of her country's top science awards, etc. - whose equipment has had phenomenal results in treating sports injuries.  I would love to introduce you two. She's in Ontario now but has a US phone line, and I'm looking for an excuse to get her down to Florida .  Brilliant, loving, accomplished, state-of-the-art, impactful... Any way, let me know if you have an interest.

If you are over toward Crystal River or Gainesville and might have a brief moment, please let me know. It would be a joy to meet you face-to-face!

    Be most blessed,

    Margaret

More Dot Facts:
* While growing up, Dot wanted to be an astronaut, a singer, an actress, and a doctor.
* Dot moved around a lot during childhood, due to her father being in the Air Force. Among the places she lived include Guam, England, Kansas, and New Mexico.
* Dot studied dance (tap and ballet) while in England. She was scheduled to perform for the Queen of England, but her father was transferred before the performance.
*Dot's nickname (given by Olympic head coach Ralph Raymond) is "Tiger".
* Dot has a scar on her right foot from childhood. She cut it on a sickle, not allowing her to go to an all-star tournament. Instead, she went to an Orlando Rebel Instructional League. The following year she became the bat girl for the Rebels.
* The next year, at age 13, she became the youngest player ever to play in the Women's Majors.
* Dot played basketball for UCLA her freshman and senior year. * Dot considers her greatest moment in sports to be hitting the game-winning homerun to win the gold medal in the 1996 Olympic Games, the year softball debuted.

This book is a must read for any aspiring softball player, or any female athlete! Her stories are inspiring, some funny, others very touching.
Five Stars *****
This Book is AWESOME! It tells of the struggles that Dot and women around the country went through to play sports. She is one of the most inspirational people in sports today. I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it and I was finished in two days.
