Rock On Dan is teaching rockers how to roll online

About Me

My life has always spun around the entertainment business. At Denison University, I was immersed in theatre, which included a year of summer stock and a USO Tour entertaining troops in Europe. In television, I ran the film department at the PBS powerhouse WGBH, and worked with independent production companies as Production Coordinator on some major network specials. Included were the Jean Shepherd AMERICAN PLAYHOUSE series as well as some early ... and eminently forgettable ... specials for HBO. As owner of a music store and boutique outside Boston, STOP, LOOK & LISTEN, I became immersed in the music of the '60s and '70s and have never recovered. Since 1995, my company, Studio 8H Website Management, has created and maintained clean, simple, graphical, informative, cost-effective websites for entertainers and the arts. Clients include: John Sebastian, Livingston Taylor, Tom Rush, Tom Paxton, Tony Levin, Artie Traum, John Lithgow, Michael Franks, Robbie Dupree and many others. Here's a small slide show of some of my photographs.

More About Me

Hometown

Born in Rochester, NY; lived most of my life in Concord, MA; lived in Orlando since 1990.

Family

I am married with a wonderful family - including my wife Michele and our children and grandchildren. My son dB is making a name as music provider for some of the highest profile sporting events. We have three cats who help keep us sane and laughing - you can see Weezil's picture on my home page here on GrowingBolder.com. My extended family, a wonderful group of old friends, manages to make it thru Orlando - usually during the sleet of February, keeping us busy with visits.

Education

B.A. in Theatre at Denison University (OH) Graduate work at NYU in radio and film production.

Goals

To continue to provide backup support for the arts, stay healthy and enjoy my life and family.

People I'd like to meet

I'm in awe of singer-songwriters and already work with some of the best. Most of my clients, musicians like Tom Rush, John Sebastian, Tony Levin, Artie Traum, Livingston Taylor, Michael Franks and Tom Paxton. are also great friends.

My Favorites

Interests

Music, art, gardening, spending time with my family. I love electronics - taking machines apart and putting them back together again. In my office, I have several microphones used in radio and television. My favorite is from the original Studio 8H in New York's Rockefeller Center, now the home of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. In honor of that broadcast tradition, I named my website design company - Studio 8H. Another collectible that I'm proud to own is an old Associated Press wire copy machine. I've rebuilt it and actually hooked it up so I can print today's news on a 50-year old Teletype machine.

Books

Recently read: Wonderful Tonight; Dead Certain; Cannery Row; "The Secret History of the American Empire: Economic Hit Men, Jackals, and the Truth about Global Corruption"; God Is Not Great; Breakfast of Champions; Fair Game: My Life As A Spy; Facing the Music;Hollywood Station; 2000 Roads; Legends of the Chelsea Hotel; Gonzo

Foods

Fresh vegetables from my garden. I have a small section of my backyard set aside for eggplants, tomatoes and more. My wife and I love cooking up the vegetables that we've grown.

Music

Anything by my clients, of course. I have pretty varied tastes - I love that I can be exposed to more music on the internet. I have found some wonderful singer/songwriters who we'd never hear on terrestrial radio, but whose work is truly stunning. The web's reach is amazing. We posted a video of Tom Rush, one of my clients, on YouTube and it's gotten more than 3 million hits!

Movies

Chicago, Hard Day's Night, Stripes, Blazing Saddles, Back to the Future (I & III), My Cousin Vinny, Roman Holiday

Television

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, 30 Rock, Holmes on Homes, Build It Bigger, Keith Olbermann, Sopranos, Seinfeld

Passions/Hobbies

Music, computers, radio history, Broadway musicals, photography
