About Me

Hi everyone!  This site looks so good!  I'm really eager to get started learning, sharing, and making friends!  I'm Vickie, 57, retired from the 9-5 but working at home getting my crafts out there!  I spend too much time on the computer, but there's just so much to learn!  I'm an organizing freak, and take way too much pride in knowing I could guide anyone to a can of peas in my pantry, even if they were blindfolded.  When I really feel like a rebel, I DON'T stack things together 'the right way' and sometimes...gasp!!...I even TURN THE LABELS FACING AWAY FROM THE FRONT.  Ok, now you know my deepest secret.  Can I still come back and play?

Hi everyone!  I just made this for lunch today and realized it's great for sharing, too.  I got this recipe years ago while working at a group home.  It's easy, colorful, and tastes great! Calico Rice (Minute Rice works best, as it...

    Hi Vicki,

It’s great to have you on the site. I can tell you’re going to bring something to the party.
What kinds of crafts do you do?  Can you post a photo or two?  Within a few months we’ll have a cool GB Mall where members can sell, trade, and auction stuff. Maybe we can help jump start your home business.

I have a proposition for you. Why don’t you start a GB arts and Crafts group? We’re releasing a major overhaul of our groups platform within a couple of weeks that will enable group members to upload photos and videos to the group. You could start a gallery of GB arts and crafts and we could have an ongoing GB Art and Crafts Exhibit.

I’ll make sure the group gets lots of promotion on the site and maybe we could come by your house and shoot a story on you to put on the group page. I’ll even contribute a photo or two to the gallery. I’ve made a few quilts (hold the jokes please) in my day. In fact, here's one I made of and for my mother. That’s her looking at it. She’s a GB member, too!

More About Me

Hometown

Ocala, FL by way of South Bend, IN & Middle TN

Family

I'm married for the LAST time to a great guy, and between us, we have 6 kids and 8 grandkids (none together!!)  We moved from IN to Ocala, FL 3 years ago and we love it here!  Terry still works.  He started a boat transporting business and he's loving it!  That man can come up with more ideas!  We adopted a beautiful German Shepherd from our local pound last March, and she's the child we never had together!  Funny how much a dog can make two people into a family!

Education

I graduated from Clay High School in South Bend, IN back in 1969, then went to Indiana University, So. Bend campus, for a year.  Getting married seemed like a lot more fun, so I dropped out, in, out...and finally graduated in 1987.  My one regret (ok, one of my regrets) is that I didn't believe in myself enough to go away to college and have that experience.  It's ok, because the path I did choose gave me other opportunities, but I do wonder what it would have been like!

Goals

Well, my MAIN goal is to make this marriage work!  I finally picked the right man, for the right reasons, but I know you can't just sit back and expect things to run on their own.  Terry is my #1 priority, and while I'm not a doormat, well, I guess I AM more of a 1950's wife!  I also want to expand my (now small) home based craft business.  I go to a few craft shows a year, but I want to get confident enough to take my things into local stores and get them sold.  I also want to continue to learn new things, expand my knowledge and test my beliefs.  I'm so excited about this phase of life, and I don't want to miss any of it!

People I'd like to meet

Jimmy Carter!  I'm not a politically involved person, so my admiration for him is based more on his humanitarian efforts than his political acheivements.  His energy, his love of family and others, are traits I really admire.  I tend to be a hermit, but if I could spend time with just one person, it would be Mr. Carter!

My Favorites

Interests

I've loved doing a variety of crafts since I was young.  I quilted professionally for years, but now I want faster results, lol.  I make crocheted rag bags and I also bead.  Besides crafts, I love to cook, and my poor husband has to do the taste testing!  He's gaining weight too, so either he's loving what I make or he sneaks out to McDonald's!

Books

Um, I have several!  It's hard for me to sit still and do 'nothing' so reading is a challenge.  When I DO sit and read, it's usually a craft book or cookbook, although I own a lot of books on spirituality, growth, and love.  Maybe the words will ooze out and I'll absorb them?

Foods

Oh, food!  Several of my very favorite things are foods!  I love too many to name!  I love to cook, love to eat, love to plan great meals.  Just ask my outgrown clothes!

Music

Jazz, New Age, Blues, Coffee House blends and even elevator music do it for me.  If I'm going to do a major cleaning or rearranging, I put music on and the tasks are so much easier!

Movies

Like reading, it's hard for me to sit still long enough to watch a full movie.  We have a nice selection, mostly comedies, romantic comedies, adventure stuff for Terry, and some kids' stuff for when the grandmonsters come to visit.  I keep trying to convince myself to pop a movie in before I start making something, but my attention span is better geared to half hour slots of TV shows.

Television

I love The Office, The Apprentice, 30 Rock, Little People, Big World, Wife Swap, Super Nanny, Deal or No Deal, The Today Show, our local news and CBS Sunday Morning.  I miss Northern Exposure and St. Elsewhere.

Passions/Hobbies

I'm working on Going Green.  Al Gore is finally getting through to me, and I'm starting to feel I need to take more responsibility for what I leave behind.  I love to crochet and bead, and I'm starting to incorporate 'Going Green' into some of my crochet projects.  Makes sense, and looks ok, too!

Heroes

Jimmy Carter.  Brad Pitt is becoming one, NOT for his movie star status, but for what he's doing in New Orleans.  Ellen DeGeneres, too, for all she does.  I admire Oprah, although I don't agree with her on everything.  At least she's out there trying!
