      My Joy in Discovering Kayaking

I grew up in the midwest. Summers were usually spent in Indiana, visiting my mother's relatives. A good portion of our time we stayed in a cottage on Jimmerson Lake, outside of Angola. I never got very good at water skiing (“lousy” would be a good adjective for my ability), but I did learn to love the water. Fast forward to my early-thirties. I've lived in Florida-a state where...

      Huge Blu-Ray sale!

Okay, so I'm a home theater geek. I currently prefer watching crystal-clear Blu-Rays on my HDTV set at home to the frequently lousy projection (and terrible manners) at the multiplex. I have a large DVD collection, but have only acquired a handful of Blu-Rays (BD), mostly because I'm reluctant to "double-dip" and buy BD copies of movies I already have on DVD. Joyously, I've discovered a great...

      The SPCA is Growing Bolder!

This week I had the pleasure to witness an important event in the lives of animals (and humans) in my community. The SPCA of Central Florida held a groundbreaking for the major expansion of their Seminole County (FL) shelter in Sanford. It took seven years of planning and fundraising, but now the construction has finally begun. When it's completed, there will be two new buildings adjacent to...

      Don't Fear the Digital Transition!

Do you receive your TV channels through a roof antenna, or rabbit ears? Is the TV at least a few years old? If so, you'll need a DTV converter box to see anything after February 17, 2009. My mother has never had cable or satellite TV, so she was worried about her TV setup. She bought 3 of these RCA DTV Converter Boxes, and tried to set one up herself. I tried to help her over the phone, but she...

Goodbye to My First Dog....life's not fair

That smile in my profile picture just felt phony today, so I changed it. After a long day of harrowing visits to multiple vet clinics, we had to say goodbye to Casey shortly after midnight. He had a long, happy life, but we were still not prepared to let go. Even with 3 other dogs, the house feels kind of empty. We bought the house 4 years ago, with his specific needs factoring into the...

      Foster Animals

My wife and I have fostered many dogs over the past 3 years. Right now, we own 4 dogs (adopting Maddy, our most recent foster), and therefore can't legally have any more adult dogs in our house. I thought I'd share a few pictures of our past foster dogs. Here's Jackie:We now own a similar little girl with the same name...primarily because we kept accidentally calling her "Jackie" as well. This is...

Rockin' to Roger on the Radio

My friends know I am an avid Sirius Satellite Radio listener. I was thrilled to hear Roger McGuinn performing a stint as a Guest DJ for "Little Steven's Underground Garage" yesterday. "LSUG" is an offbeat rock channel, with an emphasis on cool, diverse songs. I've rarely tuned it in, because I'm usually busy listening to one of the many other unique channels. My ignorance has been corrected!...

A Tribute to Our Dear Friend Wendy

As many of you know, Wendy Chioji is a good friend of most of the staff at GB. This week she said goodbye to Central Florida, retiring from TV news and growing bolder in her efforts to open a cycling center in Park City, Utah. Marc Middleton did a great GB story about Wendy's overall awesomeness. The story mentions her victory over Breast Cancer, which was diagnosed 7 years ago. The May 2001...

Have you seen Roger Rocks on Rails yet?

It was a daunting task editing the RRonRs video. I wanted to capture the essence of Roger and Camilla's journey, and not "over-edit" the video, which would ruin the feel of the story. I hope I got it right. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then watch the darned thing. It's already been viewed over 1100 times, so somebody likes it. I'm proud to work on unique videos such as this....

      The season is here!

Anyone who's looked at my blogs (both of you) knows that I love baseball. The Mrs. and I just had to watch Field of Dreams last weekend to get ready. Normally I don't go for movies that are sappy, sentimental, and manipulative, but darn it, Field of Dreams just hits all the right notes. Here's one of the many excellent scenes:
