The official Age of Opportunity chat starts at 9pm ET, but often -- people show up early to get the party started!

8:53pm @cindyoyo Okay, going to go to tweetchat with the #ageop group. They make me happy!
8:55pm @MarshaHudnall off to #ageop. join us. it's fun!

After saying hello and doing some quick catching up, we got started by talking about the hottest entertainment story of the week: 47-year-old Susan Boyle, and her mind-blowing performance on Britain's Got Talent.

(Watch the official video here)

@drkisane: I've watched the video three times now & always get a tear in the eye
@marcmiddleton: Susan Boyle- don't judge a book by it's cover, it's never too late, keep dreaming, don't give up, have courage, take chances
@kmacwill: Susan Boyle was amazing! I think I enjoyed watching Simon's face as much as her performance.
@BillShafer: Susan evoked every stereotype we ALL harbor and SMASHED them right before our eyes. Made us all feel pretty shallow!
@Choonks: awesome voice...
@JoeTheProducer: The real beauty lies within.
@cindyoyo: Joyous tears! How often does that happen when youa re absolutely struck with just plain joyous tears!
@MarshaHudnall: I think everyone's reaction to Boyle was indicative of how distressed everyone is that we are so image-conscious
@jcarlin: I heard Piers Morgan offered to be her first kiss & take her on a date. Seems bit cheesy to me. Like, hey, let's get the freak a kiss.
@gerohelper: Did you hear that Susan Boyle has never been kissed? Her devotion to her mother was all encompassing. She tabled her love life & dreams

After talking about Susan, plans for her future and the impact video has had on the entire Internet industry, we moved on to a discussion about taxes.

@marcmiddleton: Filed electronically 3 weeks ago. Return was auto-deposited 12 days later. That's pretty nice.
@MarshaHudnall: I always file an extension. It's like putting off the pain, but really prolongs it.
@kwidrick: I hate to admit it ... but I had my taxes done months ago. The week after I got my W2s. :)
@BillShafer: Taxes? Great topic!!! I filed electronically at 12:11am, BUT STILL GOT CREDIT FOR GETTING IN ON TIME!
@cindyoyo: I got my taxes done early this year! We were due a refund (which never happens) and wanted to get new boat trailer!
@jcarlin: we had our taxes done months ago, too! But that has more to do w/ my husband's analness than mine. I'd have waited til now
@JoeTheProducer: got 'em filed. underpaid estimated taxes. -ouch.
@MrElderCare: About income tax filing-got mine done. Then found additional charitable deductions! Tax code needs to be replaced with fed inc tx

And it seems everyone has an opinion about the @aplusk, @cnnBrk, @oprah, etc. battle to get the most Twitter followers! We talked about celebrities who use Twitter, the importance of following vs. being followed and more:

@MarshaHudnall: it's more important to interact, no matter whether you are a follower or a followee (is that a word?)
@marcmiddleton: Big names leveraging Twitters white hot explosion to benefit themselves. Smart. And kudos to twitter.
@kmacwill: I don't get the follower collecting, but celebrities are sort of in that business, aren't they?
@drkisane: all about building the relationships which is what'sso great about #Ageop!
@Seniors4Living: It's kinda' corny and silly, but the charity factor involved makes me not completely barf... ;)
@gerohelper: I follow more than follow me. I always feel that I can learn more from others. If others can learn something from me, it's an honor.
@debra47: Regarding topic if its more important to follow or be followed the people I am following constantly give me a running newsfeed. :)

It seems many of us are working on some goals -- big and small!

@MarshaHudnall: I raked my yard today. and i really didn't want to do it! small goal but real one!
@kmacwill: I got new tires on my car today. It's been nagging at me for months and I finally did it. Cost a small fortune, but it's now safe!
@drkisane: Made my first video using my Flip camera & managed to uploaded to YouTube!
@Seniors4Living: Pulling together a TweetUp for charity in NYC this Sat... so many moving parts, but I think we're in good shape.
@BillShafer: I actually took time to tell my aging parents how much I now appreciate their efforts in raising me.

After that comment, we moved on to talk about our relationships with our parents:

@JoeTheProducer: Loved my mom to death. Dad too (but was scared of him as a kid). "Wait till your dad comes home." Oh-oh
@kwidrick: I'm very close to my parents - I live far away but we talk often. My mom and I are very different but I respect her so much.
@marcmiddleton: My father diagnosed in the last 4 mo. with early Alzheimers. I'm not sure my mother has the energy for what looks to real challenge
@STorrico: We had a perfect extended family. My parents lived in our garage "penthouse" for 34 years and helped our sons grow up
@daccarte: I'm glad my grown children and I have a great, close relationship. My father was typical 50's father, authoritative, detached.
@MisterQwerty: As young as I am, I've now lost both parents, and so has my wife - all within the last 5 years. All were robbed (4 different reasons)
@cindyoyo: My mom was a registered nurse. She cared for everyone like they were her own family. Always. I hope I am even a little like her.
@gerohelper: My parents and their parents reinforced the value of the integerity - definately shaped me.
@MarshaHudnall: my relationship with my mother is very rocky, too, altho good right now. she has rocky relationship with most folks.
@Seniors4Living: My parents are amazing. They truly love one another and have demonstrated "unconditional love" to me many times over.
@MrElderCare: Both parents salt of the earth types. Always willing to help others. Great role models. Can't safe enough good things about 'em!
@debra47: Parents definitely had big impact on my life. Both are now gone as of last 6 years. Love of travel can be attributed to them.

To wrap things up, we talked about our favorite songs and made plans to meet back up in the #AgeOp room next week!
