What is AgeOp? @marcmiddleton: The only live weekly global chat on the power, potential and pitfalls of the age wave @BillShafer: Ageop chat is a blast!!! It's the coolest thing on the net! "Must See Internet-TV!" I'm telling all my friends!
Social Networking/Power of the Internet @PopArtDiva: I think boomers are spending more time meeting people - creating a new social life for themselves @sherisaid: I can no longer imagine a life without it. The ability to look up anything...right now...awesome @jcarlin: I look at my 74yo father in law. Just this week, he started doing online banking and can't stop raving. His whole life is now online @TheLynn: it gives those who have difficulty moving about in the world a way to re connect to it and have a voice @PopArtDiva: I've found that my blogs and websites have exposed me to the younger generations - I was surprised at my demographics
Boomer Stereotypes @BillShafer: Why do people still think Boomers = Elderly??? Boomers are out there kicking butt, running businesses, making a difference! @PopArtDiva: @BillShafer because prior generations have set us up to be old fogeys and we're bucking authority again by not becoming decrepit @sherisaid: geez, my MOM isn't even elderly. She's 70 and sharp as ever. @PopArtDiva: We actually need to get more vocal about it - and more visual too. Bumper stickers like GROWING BOLDER NOT OLDER! @marcmiddleton: It will take the alpha dogs of the 50+ gen to step up and lead. Few will even admit it - let alone celebrate it. @BillShafer: To me, elderly means you need to be looked after. You can be 95 and not be elderly. @marcmiddleton: Naming the demos is a mistake. It's about lifestage not about when you were born. We're redefining a lifestage. @babyboomerbev: Change is tough because people are not open-minded as a rule. Sad but true. That's why racism and sexism still exist.
News/Media @babyboomerbev: The face of news is changing. As a journalist who spent more than 25 years in the biz, I can tell you the old way is over @PopArtDiva: I think it would be a great idea for all newscasts to incorporate one of our venerated older anchors for some balance @dannybrown: But trad media will survive. TV did not kill radio, CD did not kill vinyl, social media will not *kill* trad. media @marcmiddleton: at one time local news tried to give a voice to the voiceless. Now we just give airtime to thugs. @BillShafer: News has gone from 30 mts to 2 hrs at a time, but the newsroom staff is no larger. Something's got to give... Quality is LOST! @debra47: There is definitely 50+ generalization in media. There is concept that someone over 50 is out of it, not in touch. @BillShafer: Every newsroom in the country is told THAT VIEWERS OVER 54 ARE WORTHLESS. Who do they think is watching? 20 somethings???
Deep Thoughts @marcmiddleton: The simple knowledge that it's never too late and there is plenty of game left to be played is a gift to people of all ages. @NatalieTM: It's evidence that we in a huge era of transition. I sense the future will be better than ever. It usually is. @babyboomerbev: I'm retired now and enjoying my life the way it was meant to be enjoyed. I refuse to allow the naysayers to rain on my parade. @finolaprescott: YES! re-tread those tires instead, the journey never ceases to be worth the taking! @thebikediva: I'm 45 and just started bike racing last year. This year I've started running 1/2 marathons & racing in duathlons
Older Boomers vs. Younger Boomers @babyboomerbev: The older boomers are pretty set in their ways. It's very evident and there is a definite clash between older and younger boomers. @babyboomerbev: Younger boomers are more progressive--willing to accept change. Older boomers are set in their ways @dannybrown: Think there's always been a divide between younger and older generations, nothing new there. Now we really have chance to bridge it @debra47: I don't think you can generalize about younger boomers being that different than older. It comes down to individuals. @babyboomerbev: I think I'm basing it on the table I sit at. In the African-American community, there is a MAJOR DIVIDE among boomers
Current Events @BillShafer: The economic news is very tough for those of us who don't have a decade to wait for the market to come back! @indiebusiness: "Retire," meaning what exactly? I think definition of work is changing. I don't ever want to retire from my work. @jcarlin: Retirement is for those who do not love what they do. When you love your work, retirement is never on the radar - no matter the econo @NatalieTM: Have you noticed how newspapers are shrinking and people are looking to other sources for info? A pos. trend perhaps?
