Description

One of Hollywood's top producers is taking a look back on his famous father's legendary career.

Spike Jones Jr. has produced awards shows and TV variety shows for networks like HBO, MTV and VH1. But now he's producing something closer to his heart -- a collection of his father's famous performances.

Spike Jones, who influenced everyone from Frank Zappa to George Carlin, was dubbed "The Master of Musical Mayhem" by Rolling Stone. He and his group, The City Slickers, were known as the original bad boys of music.

Spike Jones Jr. has produced a four-disc DVD set called "Spike Jones: The Legend," and it includes music, his appearance on class TV shows and some rare footage.

He talked to Growing Bolder about some of the hilarious features on the DVD, including an interview with "Weird Al" Yankovic, who calls Spike Jones his hero.

Find out how composers in his generation felt about Spike Jones' musical parodies and novelty songs.

This interview with Spike Jones, Jr is a delight. His own work in TV production has been known for years, but I'm delighted that he's personally releasing some of the classics by his father Spike Jones. I went to several performances, even have his distinctive autograph, and look forward to seeing his live performances instead of just hearing them. "Der Fuehrer's Face" was a great hit during WWII; "Cocktails for Two" is unlike any version you've ever heard; and "The William Tell Overture" has to be heard to be believed. Nice going, GB.
