Roger McGuinn's Latest Song

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Roger McGuinn has just put the finishing touches on a song he first learned in the late '50s, and you can download it for free!

It's part of the Grammy nominated project called the Folk Den which is Roger's labor of love.

The Folk Den allows him to connect to his roots, and to make great traditional musical storytelling available to anyone who'd like to explore it.

The process Roger uses to create these musical gems is a fascinating one.

This tune takes the Byrds founder back fifty years. He was in Chicago at the Old Town School of Music in 1957 when he learned to play it from sheet music he still has a copy of today.

The song is called "I Know Where I'm Going." It's a traditional Scottish or Irish ballad about a woman pining for her lover. Roger says he chose it because, "It's a pretty love song, just in time for June."

The song appeared on Burl Ives' debut album back in 1941. It was also recorded by The Weavers, Judy Collins, The Highwaymen and Harry Belafonte.
