Skydivers Over Sixty Set a New World Record
Posted April 26, 2011, 4:07 pm inThe Skydivers Over Sixty are at it again!
In 2009, Growing Bolder was there to document their world record-setting jump. In DeLand, Florida, 48 skydivers, all 60 and over, jumped out of a plane from 18,000 feet, joined hands together in formation and smashed a world record.
Click the video below for complete coverage of the record.
Skydiver Russ Manhold, one of the jump's organizers, emailed us to let us know SOS broke a new world record last weekend! This time, skydivers between the ages of 60 and 79 from 22 states and eight countries gathered in Lake Elsinore, California to create a new 55-way world record.
Check out some photos below, including one of Russ, and leave us a comment and tell us if you've ever skydived!
Way to go SOS!

Posted 10:57am April 28th, 2011The Skydivers Over Sixty (SOS) World Record Series offers senior skydivers, age 60+, an opportunity to participate in world-class freefall events annually.
For the most part, these men and women are skydivers with thousands of jumps and decades of experience in the sport. These days, most everyone can jump from an airplane with a tandem instructor in relative safety. The tandem experience has brought thousands of new jumpers into the world of sport parachuting.
The recent 55-way SOS world record at Lake Elsinore, California, is indeed a milestone achievement for many. To join up with almost 5 dozen fellow skydivers, exiting at 18,000 feet above sea level, reaching freefall speeds approaching 130 mph, flying in a 3D world where your partner is just inches away, requires extreme skill and focus. That’s why these SOS freefall world records are, for the most part, hard to come by. It takes many trial-and-error jumps before it all comes together.
If you’re a skydiver, age 60 or older, or about to reach age 60, contact Pat Moorehead, SOS #1, at Skyfunone@aol.com for more information on Skydivers Over Sixty.
