In 2007, at the age of 75, Barbara Hillary became the first African-American woman to reach the North Pole on skis. The Queens native says when she learned an African-American man had reached the top of the world but a woman hadn't, she knew she wanted to be the first.
Her amazing accomplishment came on the heels of her battle against cancer.
Now, she's ready to make history again. On Jan. 6, 2011, she's going south, setting her sights on the South Pole. If she makes it, she'll become the first African-American woman to reach both the North and South Poles.
When Barbara called us to share her exciting news, she told us she's ready, willing and able to answer questions from you about her expeditions and her inspiring life story.
