Nate Leech Rewrites the Record Book

Posted May 3, 2009, 8:35 am in Water Sports

Kudos to Nate Leech of The Villages. Nate recently traveled to the National Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale to participate in the YMCA Masters Nationals. Talk about a great meet! Nate swam eight individual events and five relays, winning five individual gold medals and setting 5 national records.

Nate, a backstroke specialist, turned 60 in January and completed a one man assault on the 60-64 record book. He won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of :29.49, the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.35, and the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:23.27.  He also set national records in the 100-yard individual (1:02.52) and the 200-yard individual (2:20.29 ). He also finished second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events and third in the 200-yard freestyle.

As this is my best friend, it is pretty hard to be objective. I tease him about how hard he works at staying in shape. His regimen is intimidating. I am sure he will be around long after I'm gone(even though he is older than I am!).
