Nintendo Wii Fit

The next big evolution in exercise equipment has arrived. Only you may have to fight your kids for a chance to use it. Nintendo has released the Wii Fit. Yes, the same Nintendo Wii that you stood in line last Christmas to try to buy is suddenly the newest must-have accessory for your morning workout.

The Wii Fit comes with a pressure-sensitive balance board that you stand on to control the video you see on the screen. It allows you to do aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and a variety of games. It's tailor made for the over 50 crowd as the exercises all focus on providing a core workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions.

Without ever stepping off the pad, Nintendo has taken a huge leap forward in helping motivate those of us who just can't seem to force ourselves to fight through the boredom of the treadmill, the monotony of jogging or the weariness of weightlifting.

The game does it all, down to calculating your body mass index. It even combines factors including your weight to tell you what your "fitness age" is. There are better ways to exercise, and this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what interactive exercise can be, but the Wii Fit is definitely worth consideration. One step on to the pad could be the first step you take towards improving your health.
