Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist of profound genius who is widely regarded as the greatest scientist of the 20th century. He proposed the theory of relativity and also made major contributions to the development of quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics and cosmology. He was awarded the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics.
Einstein is probably familiar to most people for his mathematical equation about the nature of energy, E = MC2.
In 1940, at age 61, he became a U.S. citizen.
After the Age of Seventy
- At age 73, the Israeli government proposed he take the post of Second President. He is the only U.S. citizen ever to be offered the position of foreign Head of State.
- At age 74, he released a revised Unified Field Theory.
- At age 76, until his death, he worked tirelessly trying to unify gravity and electromagnetism.
