He played drums for Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and Tommy Dorsey. It's him you hear in Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue," Bobby Darin's "Splish Splash" and Neal Sedaka's "Calendar Girl." He was recognized by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation, inducted into the Smithsonian Museum and his sticks are on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
