Fifty years ago this week, President John F. Kennedy urged Americans, "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country." Less than two months later, he signed the executive order creating the Peace Corps. Its first director was his brother-in-law Sargent Shriver, who died this week at the age of 95.
