What happened to Patti Schmidt isn't unique, but what she did about it is. A divorce left her a single mom who needed a job, and what Patti wanted to do was cook. But the only opening was for a dessert chef -- her biggest weakness. She worked like a mad scientist until she created the best carrot cake anyone had ever tasted. Now, with two restaurants of her own, she's baked a reputation as the Dessert Lady.
