It's Tourney Time!
Posted March 17, 2011, 10:21 amIt's only appropriate that we're showcasing one of the most successful figures in college basketball history this week. As the NCAA men's college basketball tournament kicks off, consider some of Coach John Wooden's amazing accomplishments:
-- Wooden nearly didn't end up at UCLA. He actually wanted to coach at the University of Minnesota, but when he missed the school's call due to bad weather, he thought the school lost interest. So, he accepted UCLA's offer instead.
-- In 27 seasons, Wooden's teams won 620 games and 10 NCAA titles, including 7 in a row from 1967 to 1973. He led his teams to 4 perfect 30-0 seasons and an 88 game win streak. UCLA's record stood until the UConn women's basketball team broke it in 2010.
-- After retiring in 1975, Wooden continued to teach people on and off the court with his "Pyramid of Success."
