Oldest Dog Needs Goggles
Posted February 23, 2009, 9:11 amIt’s believed that the world’s oldest living dog is now a 20-year-old blonde wire-haired daschund named Chanel. Chanel lives in Port Jefferson Station, New York with her owner Denice Shaughnessy, a retired Army veteran who adopted Chanel in 1988.
Denice says, Chanel has senior moments like any very old person, "Sometimes I will find her walking around at night and I have to give her a little snack and then she goes back to bed."
Despite her good health, Chanel has cataract problems which means she has to wear special goggles whenever she leaves the house. She also is susceptible to the cold and wears a sweater or T-shirt all the time.
"Right now she eats a special diet dog food," Denice says. "I boil her chicken every day and then I cut it up and put it on her dog food but she has been eating table food her whole life."
Chanel replaced a Labrador cross, Bella, as the world's oldest dog. Bella died at her home in England last year at the age of 29, although her owner had no official documentation.
The oldest documented dog was an Australian cattle-dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep at the age of 29 years and 5 months!
