In 1981, IBM introduced its first personal computer, the model 5150. It has only 16K on-board RAM and uses an audio cassette to load and save data - the floppy drive was optional, and no hard drive was yet available. The base model cost less than $1600 ($3770 in today's money). Souped up with color graphics and 256 kB, it cost about $6,000 ($14,400 today).
