The Day the Music Died

Rather than take the unheated bus to their next stop on the Winter Dance Party tour, singers Richie Valens and the Big Bopper hitch a ride on Buddy Holly's chartered plane. On Feb. 3, 1959, five minutes after takeoff, the plane crashes, killing Holly, Valens and the Big Bopper. More than 50 years later, the Big Bopper's son is still carrying on his musical legacy.
