Rides with High Mileage

Loved the story about Irv Gordon who put 2.6 million miles on his car. I thought mine was up there with 498,000 miles. I would enjoy hearing from others about their vehicles with high mileage and what types of cars they are driving. Driver of a Chevy Lumina

498,000 miles in any vehicle is very impressive. However, if you are planning to catch me, start driving a bit more as I am now up to 2,76 million miles and counting!! LOL

    Safe driving,

    Irv

Thanks Irv. I must say I was very surprised to see that you responded to my discussion. I have to admit that it was LOL, really more like LMHO- Laugh My Head Off.. . sputter and choke.

Okay, so my mileage is not close to your amazing mileage, but I remain interested in who is driving what. If you know a few people that are proud to discuss it, send them my way. I would enjoy seeing pics and hearing stories. I am sure there are others who would enjoy it also.

Thanks again Irv.  I feel like I just communicated with a celebrity and his Volvo!

There are many high mileage cars out there....several with over 1,000,000 miles on them. Saab, Mercedes, VW, etc. Try checking on the internet with "million mile cars" or "high mileage cars". I am sure you will come up with quite a few world-wide.

Great discussion, My brother had a 1964 Mustang inline six cyl. 4speed with 400k.

I was thinking that was alot but this Lumina is wonderful.Good driving habits and maintenance

play a part in this im sure.

My question to Mr. Gordon is  , Do you use any type of oil additives or synthetic oils ?

                                                Thanks ~ Billg

Thank you for your reply. My spouse and I are a good team when it comes to this silver bullet. I am the one who puts on the miles and he keeps it maintained. One of the secrets that he would gladly share, as you are probably well aware of, is to change the oil every 2,000 miles. We don't miss a beat!

No machine can repair itself or maintain itself. You have the right idea....proper maintenance and that means clean oil. I have been using Castrol all these years and it has, obviously, paid off. Maintenance is a lot cheaper than repairs. Keep up the good work and safe driving

I love the passion people have for their cars. I haven't had any super high mileage vehicles yet, my current daily driver is a 2006 Nissan Xterra with 55000 miles. I was driving an 89 Mustang GT up until about a year ago, that has around 150,000 but needs some engine work now. I don't ever plan on selling the mustang so I imagine the body will see many more miles.

Back in high school and college I drove an early 90's Hyundai Excel hatch back and that is still my favorite car, I could see me getting another one of those someday. Stock, no matter what I did I would get 30+ mpg with that car. I'd like to pick up another Excel someday and make a high mileage out of her.

PS: about the oil. I really hope your using "dyno juice" or non-synthetic oil if your doing oil changes every 2000K miles. Everyone is of course free to their devices, but the modern non-synthetics are very good and easily last 3000 miles + and full-synthetics are known to easily last over 5000K miles. Even my service manual for my 2006 has a tolerance of 7500 miles between oil changes if using full-synthetic (to keep the warranty). If your dumping out full synthetic at 2000 miles your pouring money down the drain. Send that oil my way or to your neighbors haha, let them use it up for you. And it'll be better for the environment.
