I saw on GB here today these two Today In History events and thought I'd share some of my Art Tributes to these two great icons of the Baby Boom Generation - Elvis and Mickey Mantle.

Feb. 27, 1956 -Elvis Presley releases "Heartbreak Hotel" - I was very young, only just 5, when this song was released and did not get "introduced" to Elvis' music until 1961 when my sister got a music box that played "Can't Help Falling In Love With You."

Feb. 27, 1963 - Mickey Mantle signs baseball's first $100,000 dollar contract. I love The Mick - I bleed Yankee Blue. I have a baseball signed by Mickey and it's one of my most prized possessions because he gave it to me personally - read more here.

I had to laugh at this blurb - just think how much money $100K was back in 1963! You could buy a baseball player like Mickey Mantle - today you might get a car. . . .but you won't get a house in most parts of the country!
Anyway, Happy February 27th - everyday is special somewhere and somewhen in the Universe!
