Howdy folks! Mike Nanus here with my first ever blog on the Growing Bolder web site! YAY!

I think I witnessed something over the weekend that certainly exemplifies somebody I think is growing even bolder. This past weekend, in front of over 10,000 people, (a small crowd by today's concert standards), Elton John took the stage at my alma mater, the University of Central Florida here in Orlando. How was he? He absolutely rocked the house!

How such a musical legend ended up playing on a school campus that was formerly mine is another topic for another blog for another day. But the fact of the matter remains that after 60 years of life, Elton John is certainly 'still standing'.

The pinnacle of the show, for me, was a rendition of "Rocket Man" that turned out to be epic both in length and in its performance. It is something I'll never forget in my mind and something that, for me, can never be duplicated.

This was the third time I had seen Elton John and my wife's first time. I tried not to over-hype him to her because I didn't want her to be disappointed. After all...he IS a 60 year old man, right? How much energy could he possibly have? I think he surprised both of us. For 2 hours and 45 minutes straight he gave every song he had every thing he had...and in his own classy way, stood and thanked his most loyal of fans each and every time after every single song. He even took a moment to give his band a small break (like they needed it) at the end of the show before the encores. During that time, he casually strolled across the front of the stage and signed autographs for everyone in the front row.

Elton John ended his show as an absolute hero dedicating his tune "Your Song" to us, his fans, leaving a lasting impression as one of the all time greatest entertainers transcending several generations. From a fan to an artist, thank you Elton John.
