My Fair Lady, Indeed

Julie Andrews is one of my all-time favorite actresses. When my brother and I were kids, we would sit for HOURS watching movies like Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady. I watched The Sound of Music over and over, trying to be just like Maria, the young nun portrayed by Andrews. Her appeal as an actress seems to transcend time -- much like Katharine Hepburn or Hayley Mills -- it didn't matter that her movies had been made years before. They made me aspire to be a strong woman. That's a pretty powerful message for an 8-year-old! So when I saw that Julie Andrews was teaming up with Walt Disney for a series of photographs, depicting celebrities as famous Disney characters, I was thrilled. Renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz took the photos, themed for the "Year of a Million Dreams" campaign at Disney Parks. Andrews posed as the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, alongside actress Abigail Breslin as Fira, from Disney Fairies.

Other stars who took part in the project include tennis star Roger Federer as King Arthur from The Sword in the Stone, Rachel Weisz as Snow White, Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella and David Beckham as Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty.

The pictures are stunning - and I'm struck by how gorgeous Andrews looks, at the age of 72. The title of her photo is "Where the Magic Begins," but clearly the magic began for Andrews years ago. What do you think of Disney's campaign? And if you could dress up as any character, which one would it be? Let me know by posting a message to the comments section below.
