Join the conversation! We are living in an age of opportunity. A time in which people all over the world are learning that it really isn't about age; it's about attitude. They're learning that it's never too late to late to change your life, never too late to make a difference. If you want proof you need only look at the hundreds of stories on
GrowingBolder.com.
The opportunity exists for everyone, regardless of age. There is economic opportunity (the 50+ market is the largest and most lucrative in history), and there is unprecedented opportunity for personal and professional growth into your 80s, 90s and beyond.
If you want more out of life, if you want to market to the 50+ demographic, if you're interested in the politics of aging, the tragedy of ageism, the explosion of masters athletics, the value of experience, the key to health and vitality, how the 50+ market uses the internet, and on and on? Then let's get the conversation started.
Who: You, GB members, journalists, marketers, personal coaches, health and wellness professionals, boomers. Anyone and everyone interested in this Age of Opportunity. As our pal
Abigail Trafford of the Washington Post told us, "We're changing the culture of aging. This has never happened before. In most revolutions there is some precedent. As a journalist, I'm always looking for the big story. This is the biggest story I've ever seen."
What: Age of Opportunity Weekly Chat. Every Chat will have a different guest host to facilitate the chat and answer your questions. Guest hosts will be some of the biggest names in industries impacted by the age revolution. Think of this as an online think tank -- made up of people whose only requisites are a curiosity and an interest in learning and sharing.
When: Every Thursday night from 9-10pm EST.
Where: The Twitter chat room. To access the chat room, just to go
http://search.twitter.com, and type in #ageop, exactly the way you see it here. The hashtag, or # sign, is crucial because that's how the millions of hourly Tweets are filtered into the Age of Opportunity chat room.
Or, an easy way to keep up with the conversation is to go to
www.tweetchat.com. Type in your Twitter user information, then when it asks which room you'd like to enter, type ageop. This tool allows you to see all responses in one location and you can even determine your refresh speed so that the conversation stays at a pace that works for you. Plus, when you type your responses in tweetchat, it automatically adds the #ageop at the end of your responses for you!
Why: Because it will be interesting, informative and empowering. It will give you ideas you can use in your personal and professional life.
After each chat, we"ll archive the best and most important points (tweets) of the week on the
Age of Opportunity chat page here at GrowingBolder.com. This page will become an archive of some of the latest and most newsworthy and most thought provoking ideas on the issue of aging.
Did you notice that word newsworthy? The GB staff is made up of former TV news people -- we all have a journalism background, and spent years in the business telling the types of stories that don't inspire anyone: drug deals, traffic accidents, murders and more. So we understand how headlines are made, and who's behind the making of them. And we know that until someone stands up and makes a change, the status quo will just keep on keepin' on.

Posted 10:44pm March 5th, 2009Wow! They say you always remember your "first time".
Well #ageop was a wild "first time" at chatting, and I really enjoyed it. It certainly kept the ol' mind hopping to keep up. Next week I'm going to fasten my seat belt and enjoy another wild ride.
And, I'm inviting some new friends along... Thanks, GB.
