Is there nothing they won't put on TV?

I just saw the following story on my RoadRunner homepage and wanted to share it with you.  All I could do was shake my head and think that the television industry is soooo desperate for ideas.  (Actually I've thought that for the past several years, ever since so-called 'reality' shows came into being)  Unfortunately, Fox's newest idea is all too real.  It will be about people losing their jobs due to the economy.  It seems that nobody's pain is too sacred to not be put out there for all the world to see, and that people seem to have lost all semblance of their pride and dignity just so they can have their fifteen minutes of fame.  I ask these people:  is it really worth it?

After viewing the video, I would like to hear from the GB members as to what your take is on it.

I too am amazed at what is put on TV these days all in the name of the almighty $$$$$.  So sad to see peoples lives destroyed.  I hope they put each person through some physcalogical tests first.  How awful would it be that someone that lost their job on TV just might commet suiside or kill someone, like the producer.  Like on Jenny Jones several years ago.  I doubt the producer thought of anything like that.

I'm with Sassy...Bring back the old shows with family morals that taught what we lack today.  No morals is why our country is in the shape it is in today.  It is not just the economy.   That is just my opinion.

       I agree with this blog.

These shows are taking it too far...I had a horrible experience because of the show Jack Ass.

A bunch of my sons friends were trying out some stunts from the show...my son in a shopping cart in a parking lot and his buddies pushing him as fast as they could into a curb and straight into a plate glass window of a business.

Thank God he had his helmet on or he would have been killed.

These shows are too violent too heartless and just too heartbreaking to watch.

The people must be nuts to agree to be humilated on tv like they do.

All thay promote is people getting put down and made fun of....Oh Ya thats entertainment!!

Bring back the old shows with family morals that taught what we lack today.

Love ya Ginger and keep them coming.

      Sassy

Enjoyed the duet with you today ....Thanks!

    Ginger -
Wow, are we on the same page on this one!  How low is low, anyway?  Sure, I guess the people on the show know what they are getting into, but don't you think some will feel that maybe, just MAYBE, being on the show will lead to an opportunity for them and sacrificing their dignity is worth it?  Fox is really scraping the bottom of the barrel here.  I'm really disappointed in them.  Is there a place where somebody says, "Enough!" for these folks?  I don't think so.  Good on you for exposing this!

If "Someone's Gotta Go" is a success, look for FOX to follow that with "Someone's Gotta Die." Each week present 4 people without insurance in need of an expensive life-saving procedure.  Produce short bios on each. Show them at home. Talk to their families. Let them make an emotional plea. Judges critique their plea and their need. "I'm sorry Dawg, it just wasn't workin' for me." And then America votes.

Aren't we proud. Nothing is sacred. Nothing is inappropriate. No one's misery is beyond the bounds of entertainment. And amazingly, those who are featured are usually willing participants. How else can you explain Jerry Springer?

We are sooo on the same page.  I was as disgusted as you when I saw that piece on the news and you are absolutely spot on with your reaction.  I shake my head often at what I see-commercials are the worst. This is not about growing older but about dignity and the sacredness of a private moment or activity. Love your blogs.
