It's amazing how quickly the landscape of journalism can change -- you've probably seen that Growing Bolder and many of us on staff are embracing Twitter as a tool for meeting new people, hearing about cool stories, and spreading the GB philosophy.

(If not, check out Marc's blog with links to our accounts!)

This afternoon, while on Twitter, I started to see reports come in from all over the country about a plane crash in New York. The reports didn't come from news organizations first -- they came from people who watched the plane go down from their Manhattan offices and on the streets.

Here's the timeline of Tweets.

It's still developing as we speak -- and the news organizations quickly caught up, issuing bulletins and updates. But the witnesses continue to have the most detail, and are giving the up-to-the-second scoop. Now, the journalists are going to the PEOPLE for the latest, rather than being forced to wait for their own crews to arrive.

It's more proof at how much technology is changing our world -- so stay tuned ... I am!

US Airways plane goes down in Hudson River

A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters. Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Laura Brown says the US Airways Flight 1549 had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport enroute to Charlotte, N.C., on Thursday when the crash occured.

Brown says the plane, an Airbus 320, may have been hit by birds.

New York City firefighters are responding to the crash. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.

Witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press, said, "I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water."

Well, Katy, I am deliberately NOT learning about Twitter!! Enough in my head already not "digested" dealing with internet, blogging, "tracking" (book editing via computer), etc. Twittering sounds like one would have endless temptation to be distracted, right?

I can't take the time. As it is I have all I can do to stick to what I SHOULD be doing with the TV, talk radio, email, etc., etc., etc. to deflect good intentions.
