It's fall TV season and for me that means a loaded DVR! This season, I'm watching:
Top Chef
America's Next Top Model
Project Runway
Models of the Runway
Along with my old standbys -- Law and Order and anything on the Food Network and HGTV.
And I've added a new show that may be my hands-down new favorite:
Glee is on Fox, and is all about a high school glee club. It's smart, hysterically funny, and an interesting peek into the lives of today's teenagers.
Obviously, this is a Hollywood creation, and is wildly exaggerated. But amid the truly breathtaking musical performances and gorgeous actors and actresses is an important message. It's about the hierarchy of popularity, our places in society (in this case, high school) and smashing stereotypes.
Check out this video:
(If you don't feel like watching the entire episode, you can watch it for free on Hulu.com)
The characters all struggle with rising above their station, and feeling that there's more to life than a label. Sounds a lot like the Growing Bolder philosophy, huh?
Now I want to know -- what was your "place" in high school? How has it changed today? Do you still consider yourself the jock/drama queen/nerd/artist/etc.?
I'll answer my own question, to get us started. I was a jock until my sophomore year of high school, when we moved across the state. That's when I became a drama queen, a role that I happily accepted! I think I was lucky to get the best of both worlds, but I couldn't have made the change without changing schools. I was never the most popular girl, but I wasn't the least popular, either.
Where am I today? Probably the same -- a jock who loves to perform!
Didn't see 2009 show-2010/ I like "GLEE"-( my husband doesn't- good thing we have more then one tv! There are other shows we watch together!) High school had sure changed in this show from when I went. I sang solo by the piano or with the group- no big productions like on this show. It would have been great. And-I'm still the artist, quiet geeky type.Got my first pair of glasses at 15 to hide my shyness behind. Now that I'm older....Im more open, not so quiet.
