Mark Twain's Social Contribution Continues

Mark Twain became known as an agent of change long before he started wearing the white suit (in 1906). He participated in fundraisers for various African American churches, the Tuskeegee Institute, and for the fledgling NAACP. Most notably, perhaps, he helped support Warner T. McGuinn through Yale law school. Who was McGuinn? He is the man who mentored Thurgood Marshall.

I mention that because I recently became involved with a group known as Roots and Wings International. For those who are unfamiliar, RWI supports young adults who have aged out of the child welfare system. Some of whom I suspect are a lot like McGuinn. I support the organization through my work as a Mark Twain impersonator.

Currently, I am planning to take my hit road show, "Mark Twain's Last Stand" to the Kraine Theatre in n New York City. It will open May 6. The first 12 performances will benefit RWI becasue the profits from the show are earmarked for them. If you can;t make it to New York during the month of May, you can still support our efforts by buying a ticket or pledging something to the cause. Donations can be made and tickets are available through the website at www.marktwainslaststand.com or at www.smarttix.com .

As an English major and a writer, I applaud what you're doing, and for such a good cause. I believe that if we mentor at risk children, they have a  much better chance of succeeding in life. Good for you!

Good luck with your show.  I am sure it will be quite successful.  The organization sounds wonderful.
