No Regrets

"Go home and live your life, my friend,"

I heard the doctor say,

"There's nothing we can do for you

To make this go away.

Today could be your very last -

You could have yet ten years more.

I cannot say when any one

Will pass through heaven's door."

So I went home and cried a bit

‘Til I decided not to pout-

Because I know the truth of what

This life is all about.

I made a vow within myself

To never gripe or grumble

But strive instead to live each day

In peace, and be more humble.

I prayed a while, wiped my eyes,

Then told my family.

I want to sing, I want to dance!

Let's take a cruise,

Or visit France!

I want to live each day I have

As if it were a blast!

I want us all to carry on,

'Cause life may end too fast.

So: sit and die, or live it up:

I'd rather do the latter:

Earn Kingdom treasures while I'm here-

Do all the things that matter!

I want to do important things

To please my Lord above;

To thank Him for my life on earth,

His blessings, grace, and love.

Be good to others while we may

With fun and love and laughter,

Let's push the cares of life away-

Live happy ever after...

And when I go, my life fulfilled,

Whenever that may be;

Then at the end, we all can say

There's no regrets for me!

    Carol,

That's a beautiful poem. It was particularly striking since I read it right after seeing the news that Farrah Fawcett has died.

    Thanks for posting!

    Hi Carol,

That is a very nice poem and oh so true for all of us. We never know when the end will come so I have always tried to live each day as if it were my last, be kind to everyone I come in contact with and try to help people whenever I can. It always makes me feel better. To the loved ones who have passed on, the best way to honor their life is to live my best life.

God Bless and keep on keeping on. Like that famous line in the movie The Shawshank Redemption, " we can either get busy living or get busy dying"

    Dorothy
